I am going to Turfway park this Saturday for the first time ever and had a question for anyone who has been before.

It is the Kentucky Cup Day of Champions with a few good races this day.

I am trying to figure out whether to just go general admission style or should I buy one of these reserved seats in one of these different categories
LocationPrice per SeatVIP Pavilion (buffet (http://www.turfway.com/general.asp?id=149#VIP) and open bar)$100.....5th Floor Dining Room with TV (buffet (http://www.turfway.com/general.asp?id=149#Fifth))$37.....5th Floor Dining Room w/o TV (buffet (http://www.turfway.com/general.asp?id=149#Fifth))$32.......Homestretch Restaurant with TV (buffet (http://www.turfway.com/general.asp?id=149#HSR))......$32Homestretch Restaurant w/o TV (buffet (http://www.turfway.com/general.asp?id=149#HSR))$27......Bluegrass Boxes (buffet (http://www.turfway.com/general.asp?id=149#Fifth))$32.....Clubhouse Reserved$10.....3rd Floor (excludes Terrace Room)$7......Grandstand Reserved$7......Players' Row$5

Any input would be great

Thanks fellas

I like Turfway. Its not a bad place to get stuck at night while doing business in Cincinnati.

I can recommend the restaurant on the main level. The food isn't bad. There are plenty of TV's, and it a short walk to the track for each race. I'm a cigar smoker, so I don't mind much the fact that others are puffing away on those silly, smelly white thingies in there.

I would guess it all depends on what you are looking for as far as your day at the track.

If you generally visit the bars/concession stands frequently then a seat with bar/food included may be the way to go (as the concession lines are likely to be long).

If you are interested in watching simulcast racing in addition to the live races then it would probably be beneficial to have a seat with your own TV.

If you are going to enjoy the live races at Turfway only you might want to consider a seat outside where you can walk around and enjoy the atmosphere.

The forecast calls for sunny skies and temps around 80. Personally, that's the perfect time to enjoy a day at the races outside.

You won't see much of the live racing in the homestrecth room but it has lots of monitors to watch multiple tracks.

The 5th floor is the best place to enjoy the live races. A TV will help you keep up with the other tracks and there are plenty of monitors a short walk away.

Agreed. The Homestretch room is great to camp out in, especially for simulcasting. Its a short walk to the outside to watch the races.

what would be the best of all those ones listed for me and my buddy who want to be able to obviously see actual races at turfway(our first time) and also have our own little reserved seat with our own monitor to be betting on the other tracks....we dont care about the food and drinks and stuff

thanks fellas

i cant find pictures or decriptions of what the different priced tickets get you, so thats why i am asking

I would go to the 5th floor with TV.

5th floor looks over the track and gives the best view of the races.

Here are two things to keep in mind for Saturday at Turfway Park:

(1) Saturday is College Scholarship Day ... they are giving away 10 college scholarships worth $1,000 each ... random draw between races for those who sign-up with a valid college ID.

(2) General Admission is FREE ... you can simply "walk in and walk around" all day if you so choose.

The free admission, in conjunction with the College Day, could create quite the party atmosphere at Turfway on Saturday, especially in the "common areas." I've never attended a College Day at Turfway but have been several times to Keeneland when they host their College Day and the place is packed with college kids (of course Keeneland is in Lexington, home to the Univ. of Kentucky). Turfway will be drawing kids from Northern Kentucky Univ., Univ. of Cincinnati, Dayton, Xavier, etc...

Sounds like you're headed up mainly for wagering purposes and I'm going to follow "sjk" and suggest getting a few levels off the ground ...

sjk and joeya.....please excuse my ignorance...

i called turfway and there 5th floor is all sold out for the big weekend this weekend...all the spots with tv's are sold out...

the lady on the phone suggested clubhouse reserved....i was just wondering what all that has to offer....does it have a place where we can sit down and look at our sheets and make our picks....does it have monitors to watch the other races and a place to bet on the other tracks...

I guess i am just trying to figure out what the best option for us being our first time up there...

like i said all we really want is a good live view of turfway and a place to see the other tracks on the tv's and make wagers on other tracks

thanks again

4th floor has good view of the track (I guess this is what they are calling clubhouse reserved) with place to put paperwork in front of you. Probably not many monitors for other tracks that you can see from you seats but they are a short walk away.

Here is the official field for Saturday's Kentucky Cup Classic:

1 1/8 miles, 3-year-olds and up, $350,000 (includes $150,000 Kentucky Thoroughbred Development Fund); $150,000 to the winner if he won a Grade I race in 2006 or 2007.

1 Hard Spun, (8-5)
2 Cat Shaker, (30-1)
3 Street Sense, (3-5)
4 Stream Cat, (4-1)
5 Muqbil, (20-1)

Since Hard Spun is not a Ky-bred he will be running for only $200,000 + the $150,000 bonus ... For Street Sense, this is a $500,000 opportunity.

But who bets him at 3-5 ... which will likely be lower given his reputation around these parts.

The one good thing about that race is that the worst any of them can do is barn money.:)

do you know what level of the building the players' row are...

I believe it is on the first floor near the Homestretch Restaurant, not far from the paddock.

According to today's press release from Turfway trainer Craig Callus would strongly consider the Breeders' Cup for Cat Shaker (30-1) if he runs well in the Kentucky Cup Classic ...

... this horse has 1 win over the last two years, is 3 for 34 lifetime and just cleared N2X conditions on the grass at Ellis Park in July ...

... I guess that's what makes this the sport of dreams.

Street Sense against Cat Shaker and Muqbil? Now I've seen everything.

Are there any Skyline's or Gold Star Chili's on the KY side of the Ohio River?

I will make note of that.

Good post position stats in the other thread. I remember seeing numbers from the first year and the inner 3 posts were bad for sprints back then. Looks like that hasn't changed one bit.
