I am new at learning how to handicap when you can't go to the track or see the horses. I would love to hear suggestions about what to try. I would love to see anything that could help me get a value odds line and also choose pace lines. thanks in advance

I have been a horseman all my life basically. I was told by my friends that handicappers were real different but I blew it off. Hey, I stand corrected. Ask one of us our opinion on almost anything and it is hard to get us to shut up.

I am impressed. It looks like whatever data I do get someone has thought about. i am more used to filtering the BS.

Choosing a software is such an individual thing that it is very difficult to offer suggestions, although if you do searches on previous reviews and discyssions it will give you a base. What you use depends so much on your level of play, your time commitment and what you consider important. HTR has gotten raves from it's players. I use JCapper and HandicappingOS and would recommend them unhesitatingly. HSH is another product that many recommend. So I guess my suggestion is go through the old threads here. When you find something that interests you, ask a specific question. I have no doubt that you'll receive answers.

When you can't get to the track and need to pick a pace line my suggestion is to try and be consistent. It took me a long time to learn this. What I mean is you don't need a reason to bet a horse. You can just bet him, it's your money it doesn't have to have a good number or a good odds line or a good pace line. All you have to do is bet the horse.

So don't torture a program or go back to when the horse was two and he is 9 years old today to get a pace line ( I'm not saying don't go back on a horse) I'm saying just bet the horse don't corrupt the process just so you can bet a particular horse. You can bet any horse you want too you don't need a logical reason.
