hard to believe, but true:

Meadowlands refused to take sure wagers today in today's
4th race at Belmont1

I actually saved money by their action, but I don't remember
ever seeing a track (simulcast or live racing ). take this approach
in a field of 6.

What exactly is a sure wager?

Do wagers made at Meadowlands not go into the pools? What is it to them?

Sure raises lots of questions.

M has a big rebate program for onsite players. There are a good number of large bettors there . The track wants to limit their exposure . They've been doing it for several years now. Not only are there % rebates depending on your monthly handle, but Sheets, meals, programs, etc. They usually have a list on a tv monitor that states which tracks/races they will not take wagers on. Only place i've seen that does this, but they have a large program there.

I'm confused by this. I can't imagine they're rebating back more than they're taking in... so where is the "exposure"?

Might have been on the hook for huge bets into a minus show pool on The Green Monkey. Probably saw themselves losing money on the show pool, so didn't want to make it worse by adding rebates on top of it.

sorry about the typo

" sure" was meant to be show..

Hi Steve;

with 5 minutes to go, the show pool was about 10,000

I believe parking in the preferred lot calls for a yearly wager
of 250,000 ! :

They have the Big M club for bettors, are you speaking to that? You need 450 points to get a $5 voucher with that program.

At the highest level they get 4 points per dollar so $50,000 to show is 200,000 points. If I did the match correctly that is a voucher of $2,222.

So that would essentially take away all of the track profit on a regular pool and increase the loss on a minus pool.

Welcome to The Big M Club, the Meadowlands Racetrack's player rewards program.

Big M Club members wagering is rated weekly. Each level receives base points for every $1 wagered, which is credited the next day. A second bonus, based on your weekly level is credited every Monday. Additionally, you can earn bonus points for wagering on Meadowlands live races.

Points can be redeemed for any award the club member chooses, based on availability.

Bridge jumpers like to think they are betting on sure things. A horse making his career debut is far from a sure thing....

Now, if they had done this on the Gazelle, that's another story altogether....

How/why would a minus pool at Belmont affect the Meadowlands?

How/why would a minus pool at Belmont affect the Meadowlands?Because if the bet that creates the minus pool is made at the Meadowlands, I believe the Meadowlands is responsible for making up the difference....

Every rebate program I've ever looked at specifically excludes show bets that return $2.10 or $2.20. I'm surprised that the Meadowlands wouldn't have had the foresight to include a similar restriction.
