How many years need to pass by before a horse can take the name of another horse in the Jockey Club registrations?
Just read my Bloodhorse and saw a horse in the Del Mar (After Market won) that is named Toasted.
When I was rubbing horses at Belmont, TJ Kelley had a horse in his barn named Toasted...this was back in maybe 1969 or '70...not quite sure about that.
Thanks:)

I think it varies depending on the celebrity of the original horse. Secretariat probably will never be allowed. A horse named Bucharest is on the books as holding a few distance records at HOU in the mid 90's. This name has been reused recently.

Balance is also the dam of a mare by the name of Swing On. Swing On is the dam of Seabiscuit

Thanks for thr replies & the links... I was simply curious about the name rules, and of course, know about famous names not being allowed again...
and Bill...love you 'Let it Ride' quotes... I have that movie on DVD and watch it alot...one of the greatest race movies ever made...what casting...couldn;t be better and brings back wonderful memories, not just of gorgeous Hialeah, but of all the great characters at the track. For me... Let it Ride is a classic!!
Hope everyone here is...."Having a very good day"
