I remember Mom and Dad all raving over Kelso winning a race... I just glanced at the race and did something else ... too young then.

My Dad got me started - he took me to FL when I was a kid.
My grandparents used to take the train to Fort Erie until FL opened. My uncle owned horses, and another one took bets at his barber shop.

My late Mother and I would watch the Kentucky Derby each year and I would pick my horse based on the prerace hype. I often wondered why some horses were entered that the "experts" on TV said had no chance. Guess what? My Mom picked one of those that had no chance and he always ran 2nd.

First horse racing memories are of scurrying around picking up tickets, I think I found something like a $30 exacta once, man did I think I was rich. Have no real memories of watching any televised stuff, just being at the track every summer, it was a big social event.
