I've been trying to come up with ways to bet it to try and make the most cash. I have come up with several ideas. The first was to just wait until theres a graded race at one of the bigger tracks and put it all to win or maybe place on an extreme favorite, hopeing to get maybe 4/5 - even money ish range. And then keep doing that til I build it up to like 10 grand then cash out. My second thought was to play a pick 3. Maybe a $3 pick 3. I would try to do the pick 3 when thers at least 2 consecutive races that look like it's bombs away. I calculated that a $3 pick 3 (all) 9 horses with (all) 10 horses with (all) 9 horses would cost $2430. Another idea I had was to do a pick 4. Many pick 4's pay nice money. I calculated that a $1 pick four if I played 7 horses in each race would cost about $2401. So I was thinking to find a pick 4 at one of the mid or bigger tracks that have larger pools with at least 2 races out of the 4 that look like it could be bombs away. I did some other calculations 9/6/8/6 (representing number of horses per race) would cost $2592 9/6/7/7 would cost $2646 6/7/7/8 would cost $2352. I also thought about doing a pick 6 at a track that lets you do it for $1 but pick 6's are really hard to hit. What do you guys think? I will post the ticket here when I do it but the checks not expected to come for a month or so I just figured I would get some ideas on the best way to wager it. It's all fun money so no worries if I loose. But naturally I would love it to win :)

If you are going to do this and can handicap a little bit(?) then wait for the Breeders Cup card and go to town.

If you are going to play for bombs away then don't include the favorites in the bombs away races.

You can get better coverage and a better return if correct by stacking the tickets other than just wheeling all the horses.

Do it by odds or post postion, anything. I think there is a book some have recommended by S.Crist on exotic wagering. I have not looked at it, but it gets some good reviews.
Spend the next month reading that and constructing tickets for practice in some of the larger fields at the major tracks.

If you want to go for a bunch of shots in a quick period then find a 8-1 or so ML horse in a field of 9 or more and wheel that horse on the board in the tri.

x-all-all
all-x-all
all-all-x

look for bottom level races at whatever track you are playing for the above bet and only make the plays in the first two weeks or last week of the meet.

Good Luck

thanks for the information guys. I am going to practice for a month see what I can come up with and then when the time comes in a month-two months when I go to make the bet ill revivie this thread and post my ticket(s) - one thing I have also noticed lately is it seems that if a horse has low morning line odds evern if he goes off at 10:1 it still hurts the price because a lot of people will go by morning line odds. But I will practice and let you know what I come up with.

12 horse race. Box the five highest odds horses in a trifecta until you hit one.

I think the advice of saving it for Breeder's Cup is excellent. This is a day of great racing and extraordinary payoffs. With some good handicapping and a little luck you extend that bankroll to be the basis of your entire next year's betting.

Being in the gambling business…”bless you my son”, I wish there was more like you.
If you were my ‘son, we would have a long talk.
You must be a person of some financial means or this amount of money may mean more to you.
Kyle; if your primary goal is to bet this money…Nothing we can say will stop you. If you’re looking for an edge and care about winning; bet $500 like a drunken sailor and get that rush out of your system. Then spend $1,000 more dollars and study this game by reading and investing in good software etc. This will give you a $1,000 stake to gamble with unless your 1st $500 hits and then you may want to give up study and become a professional ‘drunken sailor.

Sorry about the cynical / sarcastic nature of this post, but in my experience money is just not that easy to come up with.

All the best! :)

1. Cash the check.
2. Take a photo of the cash.
3. Start betting.
4. Refer to photo when it is all gone.

Buy $2500 worth of stock in ORCL. Forget about it. 20 years from now cash out and enjoy your $75k.

Do NOT cash the check until the day before Breeders' Cup weekend.

If you need to practice, this will afford you plenty of time to do so.

I think Dan G gave you good advice. But in the end, you're gonna do what you had in mind in the first place. A guy asks, "who do ya like?" Most of the time he's just looking for confirmation for his own
Good Luck

I love gamblers, because there are all kinds :)

I would bet $2500 to win on some horse, and make sure I do it a rebate shop.

Get the rebate back the next day, take the $150, buy a couple cases of beer and some steaks for my friends and have a party telling them how I lost $2500 on a horse the night before.

And then I wouldnt gamble again :)

Well I got the money free off of the internet. Ever get popups for things like free ipods, for example shoot 10 ducks and get a free ipod. Well those sites really work I have been doing them for years. I got a $2000 vacation, a 37" plasma tv, a 1500 check, a 400 check, and a few other things. I got a $2500 check coming from one of those sites. Im going to wait til the breeders cup like you guys have suggested. I will practice up until then.

Find a big race where you have a strong opinion. A big race is for example anything on the breeders' cup card. You have your horse, you have your price, you think he's the most likely winner you've ever seen. Your check amount won't affect the off odds. Go for it. Everything to win.

I actually play like this from time to time. As careful and exacting as you have to be in order to prove beyond a reasonable doubt a runner will win, you'd think that raceday would be a relaxing time. I can't explain it. The closest I could get is to say I'm full of faith & simultaneously full of doubt. All I know is when you're in that state, you win every time, but you keep doubting nevertheless. If I could bottle that feeling I get when I have a prime bet out, I'd be the wealthiest man on Earth. The juice is unrivaled. Embracing faith and overcoming doubt is one of the grandest experiences a player can have.

He is essentially looking to make a negative expectaion bet or series of them.
SO, plunge it ALL and take the shot.
If I played any of the casino type games, really what this sounds like then your shot is best made all at once and only once.

In the hands of the gods and all that.

I did a practice one today. Played a pick 4 at Delaware. Hit 3 races out of 4. $1 Pick 4 (6-2-4-8) 4 Correct Paid $7,385.60 Was close but no cigar going to keep practicing. Im also leaning towards maybe doing the big race thing. Heck even if I can get just 4/5 thats almost double my money.

Take the money out in $1s. Sit it all on the floor, pour gasoline on it and set it on fire!!! Hell of a lot easier than having to drive to the track, make a wager and lose it. :)

Hey maybe I should invest it in a horse? I was reading tonight about horse partnerships. For as little as $500 I could get 1% share or more of a horse.

Buy $2,400 worth of crayons, and then wait for a horse called "Crayons" to race. While you wait, color in coloring books or write on paper bags or make tic-tac-toe games. When "Crayons" is entered in a race, bet the remaining $100 on him to Show.

It's not a bad system. I tried it once. Only thing is, even though "Crayons" hit the board, he only paid $2.80.

I wanted to try it again with a horse called "Markers" but I had already spent $2,400 on crayons and couldn't justify buying a bunch of markers on top of that.

I briefly entertained the thought of waiting for a horse named "Eight Ball" but I didn't think that would be such a good idea, and I was already kind of overwhelmed with all the crayons and deciding what to do with my $40 profit.

I ended up blowing the $40 betting on gray horses and then took a nap. It worked okay for me, so I feel comfortable recommending this to you, as well.

Good luck.

Well when I was thinking it over and originally thought that putting it all on one horse was the best idea. Crossing my fingers that I could get in the 2.60-3+ range, however I don't think that would happen unless I do it at a bigger track. Maybe I split it up purchase 1% share of a horse for $1000 that would leave me with $1500 left over. Then maybe I could just put $500 a time on a horse which wouldnt kill the odds too much. Maybe could even do the 500 for place or show at the bigger tracks.
