I need some help from the real baseball guys.

My wife has received a bunch of baseball memorabilia to sell for a friend after her husband's death. Among the items is the picture below. Does anyone know who these guys were and/or what team they played for?

Thanks for whatever help you can offer.

Regards,

I think what you may have there is a picture of the Cuban Stars (East). Have a look at the jacket in the top picture and compare to the uniform. They became the New York Cubans.

The guy on the right may well be Alejandro Oms

Those don't look like autographs but rather somebody writing on the picture to identify

You guys are the best!

This picture turns out to be in Ken Burn's book, Baseball. It is from the 1923 Cuban Stars. I even found the three guys' names.

Thanks!

Dave

PS: When our friend died, amazingly, I was left out of the will for his most prized possession. :bang: (Okay, maybe it was my most-prized and maybe I knew I didn't have a chance.) It is a large (16" x 20" or larger) picture of Joe Dimaggio and Mickey Mantle, the year Mickey was a rookie, signed by both of them.

Was your friend any relation to Lorena Helmsley?

Richard,

LOL - No, but he had a son who was in front of me. Go figure. (At least it wasn't a dog.)

1951.....I went to the game at the stadium that they did the memorial after Joe D died. Bob Sheppard read out the starting lineup for the final game of the 1951 World Series (Mickey was out after the first of many knee injuries). Bob's first year was 1951 as well and he's still going.
