Side note;

GREAT book on New Orleans and account of Hurricane Katrina was written by Tulane Professor Douglas Brinkley called “The Great Deluge”.

His account of Ray Nagin before / during and after the crisis has to be the most condemning account of a civic leader in many years. What a DISGRACE :ThmbDown: this man is on every level IMO.

OK…Sorry, Tom…I feel better now…LOL. :D

And they re-elect him....just incredible. That city will never be rebuilt if they have to do it themselves. They will wait until hell freezes over for the govt to build them new homes. Brings to mind the tsunami victims who immediately started to rebuild...by themselves because there was no other way.

And it's rumored that he will run for Govenor. :lol:

This man is formerly a Repub (while an executive with Cox Communications,) and we sure are happy that he changed parties (a requirement if he wanted to be elected Mayor of the Big Easy.)

Photo of New Orleans Mayor Playing With Gun Sparks Debate
Friday, February 15, 2008

A photograph in a Times-Picayune report Wednesday on the New Orleans Police Department's new crime-fighting equipment has set off a wave of controversy.

In the photo, Mayor Ray Nagin is smiling and seems to be aiming an assault rifle at Police Superintendent Warren Riley.

The picture has sparked debate amongst readers, talk radio hosts and bloggers over whether the mayor is actually pointing the gun at Riley.

Late Thursday, the Times-Picayune issued an apology to the mayor.

"A review of a video taken at the event shows that the camera captured a split second as the gun was being lowered that made it appear to be deliberately pointed at the chief," the paper wrote. "However, the mayor clearly did not deliberately point the gun at Riley."

Is this the depths to which media has sunk? Creating a story where none exists is so utterly boring.
