Anyone catch that show price on the #9 horse, Special West in race 8 at Columbus last night? Equibase and TSN both list the payoff for a $2 bet at $999.90! The place payoff was listed at 83.20. Horse went off at 31.80/1 and the post time favorite won the race with a 4.10/1 shot running third. The morning line on Special West was 8/1. TSN lists the total mutuel pool (W/P/S) at $1,938 so something appears to be way off here. Could it be possible that no one bet the #9 to show and the data services simply filled the field with the highest price that would fit in a ###.## field?

General rule of thumb for the straight pools is a 4/2/1 split. so you would be talking a show pool of $200 to $300 dollars.

Do they accept dime wagers?

Columbus, Nebraska population: 21,414

876/21414 = 4% of town's population at the track. That's a good per capita!

Columbus is a fun track. Coal trains go by every 10 minutes, the stands are practically right on top of the track, the beers are cold and not too expensive, and on Friday night it's the happening place in east-central Nebraska.

Comes out to approx bet of $1.09 per capita.
Last train must leave before last race maybe that explains no show bet. :D
Anyway it sounds like a great little getaway, would love to visit sometime.

Sounds like a good recipe for hooking younger players. The "better" tracks should try it, emphatically and often.
