Tonights 5th Race at Prairie meadows. #4 palm breeze was 6/1 ML .
( My line had him 9/5). He goes off AT 1/5 PAYS 2.40.

Large bettors at tracks like these are just betting against themselves.

Care to see the win pool in that race?

WIN POOL:
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
68 68 416 3244 146 314 440 79

WIN ODDS (decimal)
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
50.00 50.00 8.00 0.20 25.00 11.00 8.00 45.00

It appears that this was a potential bridge jumper's race except that there was no need to jump.

Prairie Meadows is a casino-first, race track-second.

This reminds me of the time I was in Las Vegas and a fellow next to me saw a horse he liked at Penn National that was 7-2. He came back after making his bet and looked at the board as they were loading. His horse was 8-5.

He said he wouldn't have bet it if he knew the odds would be so low. I asked him how much he bet on it.

He said $250 to win and place.

I told him he was was the one that lowered the odds.

I studied a lot about the effect of bets on pool size these last few months. Any serious player should.

Bacj in the 90's was betting $20 win bets had to stop that in a hurry. One exacta no one had so paid 1st to the 3rd horse. First time I had ever heard of that.

Is there a model you can download? I've always been interested to study this as well, just never had the time to build something in excel.

CJ,

I'd be very interested in that study. Specifically, which tracks have the smallest win pools-as defined by a $200 bet declining odds.
