This is long overdue and hopefully it leads to a much more important announcement; Hong Kong is betting directly into our pools.

They are now in selected carryovers through beards, but with internet access the fact that an adult can’t bet any race in the world is just ludicrous IMO.

As I understand it, only Nevadans will be able to bet, UNTIL LVDC sell the signal to, say, TVG. Better than Australia, I guess. Almost handicappable, even.

IMHO, this is huge for another reason.

I believe that Nevada is getting ready to allow betting from outside the state. I mean, adding Hong Kong's two cards per week is just not that big a deal unless they are hoping to expand their market outside Nevada.

Permit me to go on record here with a prediction that says Nevada will enter the internet bet-taking arena by the end of 2008.

Dave Schwartz

I like it. How informed can I become of the talent and where can one find sound data from which to bet from?

Any US outlet that is taking the Hong Kong races will have their wagers commingled via the LVDC. Essentially, the hub was changed.

Yes, HKJC is currently WEG pools. As an aside, the contract between the company offering Austrailia Racing in North America and WEG is up in less than a year - they intend to common pool with the Austrailian tracks. Should help the pays.

Hong Kong's big pools command attention

By ANDREW BEYER

WASHINGTON, D. C. - In the age of simulcasting and betting via computer, American horseplayers can watch and wager on races from almost every track in the country. They can also play races on four other continents. So the addition of one more track to the crowded racing menu might not seem significant.

Before the end of the year, people in the United States will have the chance to play the races from Hong Kong, with their money going into the betting pools at Happy Valley and Sha Tin racecourses. Even though few Americans know much about Hong Kong racing now, I will venture a prediction: The size of the wagering on these foreign races is going to stun the Thoroughbred industry, here and abroad.

Ok, gotta ask , in what way will this wagering arrangement effect racing here in the US?.How will affect the way US tracks do business?
The way I see it the Nevada Gaming Commission has granted a license for people in NV casinos to bet on races in HK...So what?

I didn't see anything as to what time of day these races would be in the US. Australia doesn't start til after 10 East Coast time. Is Hong Kong in the same time zone?

Cautiously optimistic we will have the signal based upon some conversations today.

The first series of wagers will be
win/place
daily double
trfiecta
quinella
quinella/place
bracket win

I profess to only passing familiarity with the last 2. Its late here and I haven't looked them up yet. Later on LVDC will add
Tierce
Trio
Double Trio
Triple Trio

As I understand it, the later set will requiring some programming. Some on LVDC's end, some on Amtote, some on ours.

well, racing has started again in HK, and Woodbine is offerring a separate pool.

Will they be merging into this common pool arrangement come december ??

Won't be a moment too soon....just in time for their biggest day, the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Int'l..

quinella/place
bracket win

I profess to only passing familiarity with the last 2.

Bracket win pool is discontinued this season in HK and will never return.

Quinella Place pool is the second biggest pool for each race approximately 80% to 95% of the Quinella Pool.

Three dividends are paid in the Quinella Place pool - 1st with 2nd, 1st with 3rd and 2nd with 3rd.

OK, thanks. I was getting the wager info from LVDC. The second set of bets have never been offered in the states before so we all have to do some work to get ready for them.

I'm going to spend some time today becoming familar with this. Thanks.
