Yes, I know there is more competition on Friday at 5 EST than Monday. But this goes to show that without slots and a great location for slots, the WEG Execs would be selling pencils in front of City Hall.

I've been to Woodbine a couple of times, and I can assure you at least half of those that go only go for the slots. The Slot area is completely packed even while racing is taking place. They have a decent size slot area and I went through once and couldn't find an empty seat.

Another interesting thing to note about Woodbine is that it is located in Rexdale, right next to Woodbridge, the Mafia capital of Ontario. Gives you something to think about.

They will be able to make sales only if there were no other pencil sellers in the country...

If I can piggy back on this thread a little, there is a notion that big tracks like Wo are more playable than places like FE. The top projected Cramer rating at Wo has been winning at a respectable 25%, but at FE it's been kicking ass at a 35% clip. FE is at least as predictable plus you can get a rebate.

In other words, it's exactly like every other racino in North America.

(Well, except for Gulfstream. . . .)

This could make some executives downright ornery....(Hey let's figure out a way to screw the regular customers we do have... oh we lost those you say

It shows that Woodbine execs are getting paid for doing nothing.

I don't think too many people realize one thing: Ontario law states that casinos can ONLY legally exist on the grounds of an established wagering site. i.e race tracks. Unlike other areas where a casino can open down the street and steal their thunder, in Ontario casinos HAVE to be on the grounds of race tracks.

Are you familiar with Casino Rama, Casino Niagra, Great Blue Heron Casino, Fallsview, Casino Windsor & several others?

Windsor has a racetrack, but you are right about the others.
Most of Niagara Falls doesn't even know a racetrack exists in Fort Erie.

Not exactly. In Ontario, only the Government can legally operate a casino, but it doesn't have to be on the grounds of race tracks. Heck, they built one in my town a few years ago, no where near a race track where I live (Sudbury Downs is the closest, 3 hours away. Unless Saginaw is still in operation) Then there are those casinos on indian reserves, like CasinoRama, where the government can't do squat to stop them opening.

But I agree that the government tightly regulates gambling/wagering. Which is completely dumb and ant-competitive that only they can operate casinos, and heavily regulate racetracks.
