On this date in 1867 Dexter trotted a world record 2:17 1/4 at Buffalo, lowering his own record from 2:19.

On this date in 1931 Calumet Butler won the Hambletonian at Good Time Park in Goshen, New York. Calumet Butler's two heat victories in the Hambletonian were the only wins of his career.

On this date in 1942 one of racing's oddities occurred at Saratoga when Rurales and Joe Burger finished in a dead-heat for first, giving trainer W.O. Hicks, who saddled both horses, two winners in one race.
