View Full Version : Urgent Jockey Club Petition
betovernetcapper

I'm going to remember this year's Derby, not as the year that Street Sense repeated his rail hugging Juvenile, but as the time in decades I'd not bet on the Derby. I'm going to remember it as the year that American racing began to fall apart.
The Jockey Club is having a meeting later this week and a member who prefers to remain anonymous has agreed to present a petition to them. If you'd like to use your real name but not post it on the board-pmail me and I'll write it in. If you want to use your screen name-have at it. If you know people from other boards that might be interested, please alert them.
Petition
We as players are offended and disgusted by the wrangling that TrackNet, TVG and other content providers have engaged in with regards to the simulcast signals. We believe that many executives in the business overlook the fact that without us, the racing industry would cease to exist.
.
The operation of a race track and the ability to conduct inter-track simulcasting of racing events is a privilege not a right. We request that the Jockey Club, the NTRA and all powers that be immediately intervene to mediate the disputes that are destroying this great game.
.
We demand that all licensed racetracks, simulcast facilities and ADWs
be accorded immediate access to all simulcast signals at rates that are fair and equitable to all, the tracks, the horseman, and the players. Let the customers decide who to reward with their business.
.
In the absence of responsible action, horse player boycotts are a certainty.

I have actually stopped betting. I find it increasing difficult to bet on the tracks that I want. I refuse to bet with 2 or more ADW's. I have never seen a industry that treats its paying customers with so much contempt. This "open the doors and they will come" mentality has to stop or I will not be back.

If the current trend of "deaf ears" towards the wants of the betting public continues, We, the people who supported this industry for decades, our beloved jockeys who risk life and limb each time there "on", trainers, owners, breeders, grooms and a host of those who make this Sport possible - will soon be a footnote in history.

It's interesting that you quote Bob Evans of Churchill Downs. I believe Churchill has much to do with the current state of affairs. I live in Louisville and I know first hand how player unfriendly Churchill is. Unfortunately we are in the middle of a contractual battle between lots of players. But the main battle is between TVG and Churchill. TVG has nothing to offer from a product standpoint. TVG has no product. TVG is a legal bookie. Now Churchill has a product. However, Churchill is interested in only one thing - making money. Churchill doesn't care how many players they turn off by refusing to work out an equitable deal with TVG. Churchill wants to see TVG go down the drain. In order for this to happen Churchill is willing to wait for all of the TVG partner tracks contracts to expire. And not all of the contracts need to go up in smoke. Just enough for TVG to throw in the towel. If TVG loses NYRA or whatever new NYRA will be, TVG will be done. Churchill will then offer tracks a similar arrangement that TVG has offered them along with televising races through HRTV. So Churchill prefers to wait it out. Time is on their side. I hate the fact that this is going to happen but what can TVG do? Short of getting the New York franchise I really believe TVG will flat line at some point. Good luck with the petition.

How about adding to this complaint the increased use of drugs to enhance a thoroughbred's performance; how about the establishment of a national board to regulate racing so we can do away with state-by-state rules; how about the humane treatment of retired thoroughbreds; how about being the voice for those we have no choice?

ALL CIRCUITS GO.
Been playing 30+ years. Its always about the money for them, never for the daily players who support the industry.
I've been playing for 51 years and concur.
It's all about the money.
The Jockey Club will take no action. I've been down this road before. Equibase, who owns most of the services
will do nothing as well. I remember well when they where giving free html charts which is now being sold and charged for. Greed is ruining the Industry.

I started handicapping Ak-Sar-Ben in 1970. I have enjoyed the progress the sport of horseracing has made over the years. I can sit in front of the TV and run to the den to make a bet on-line. I still go to live racing in Hot springs, but this internet betting is great. Until this summer, that is.
These internet providers, TV shows, and tracks are like little kids. "It's my ball and only Johny and Joe can play...." I haven't made a half dozen bets since this bickering started this summer. I used to bet every day.
Who is this hurting?
I still download a form every once in a while, but not being able to bet my favorite tracks takes a lot of the fun out of handicapping.
So I will remain silent in Iowa until these guys grow up.

A sport that should command great attention because of its memorable moments, challenges and achievements (both human and equine) is overshadowed by avarice, gross mismanagement, an almost total lack of concern for the customer (with some notable exceptions) and no apparent plan or effort to reach a larger audience. Sad, sad, sad, sad, sad.

Steve M - Newspaper Handicapper. Work from home & bet mostly from home. Many tracks I cover end up on different providers, including a recently purchased one, which botched my paperwork as did its sibling company, and locks me out of making deposits. So I said heck with it, didn't bet those tracks this year and can take or leave the provider. Personal handle has to be at a 5 year low due to somewhat restricted limited track availabilty.

Been at it for 60 yrs and been doing it for a living for 40. We always complained that the tracks NEVER did anything for the middle age male. They used to have ladies day, free gift days , etc. but nothing for us. The more things change , the more they stay the same.
But, it was us that killed the immigration bill (for now) and we can do the same to these clowns.

What more do I need to say? I'm fairly young & look forward to betting online soon on this great and ancient sport (as soon as the workouts benchtesting my research are through), but I'm afraid others who would otherwise be more attracted to handicapping will look elsewhere than horseracing to apply & try their skills & $ for fun & profit. The future of the sport is at stake!
Add my real name to the petition, & thanks for posting the petition for sigs (I was alerted to the whole situation by an email from paceadv@paceadvantage.com -- thank you!

Whobet is in,
and I agree with Andy Beyer,
there is a civil war going on in the wagering part of this industry,
a couple of weeks ago on a friday,
there were six tracks running,
I could only bet three with my BRISBET account,
then Ellis closed due to storm,
and i could only bet two tracks.
What is the matter with you track operators,
If I owned a race track,
my signal and betting options would be open to every outlet I could find,
duh, that's how you make your living,
taking bets,
not driving customers away from your track.
The Owners, Trainers and Jockeys also should be screaming BLOODY MURDER,
as well as the betting public.

My first day at the track in 1974, I saw a kid named Russell Baze win his first race, and my passion for the game continues to grow, as long as it is allowed to. When I see players the likes of a Lee Russo, a back-to-back Thoroughbred Handicapping Champion, leave the game for greener pastures (Poker), and then watch daily the industry shoot themselves in the foot, I am forced to question the direction the game that I invest my heart, my soul, and my bankroll on is taking. "The greater good" is a brilliant concept, but if everyone has a different interpretation of the notion, who will decide just what is the greater good? The Jockey Club is in a position of influence. Please, use it... for the greater good.
