View Full Version : Poll or Fraud?
CNN’s Jack McCafferty had a poll last night regarding the congress passing increased powers to wire tap suspected terrorist phone calls from outside the USA. The question, however, IMHO is the problem with many polls – it asks one question and then is used to support or attack other viewpoints.
In this case, the question was something along the lines of “do you think congress should have passed….that allows Bush to eavesdrop on Americans’ phone calls.” Which is NOT what the bill does. The bill is rather specific in what it allows, yet the poll sounds like Bush is being given card blanche to listen on anyone’s phone calls.
So if you see a poll result, never believe it unless you see the actual question that was asked.
CNN and McCafferty acted amateurishly in posing this poll question, and again IMHO, was designed to be politically biased.

So, if you wanted to do a Poll on this bill Tom,
what should the question have been?

how about forget about a Poll, and have the news actually explain what the bill is? The background on FISA...what the laws have historically been, and how this bill changes things. Maybe also a discussion of other changes that have taken place in war time before, and maybe even a discussion of how other countries handle similiar questions. You know, context.
This is why I hate NewsTV.

Could not agree more Chick…
Not to knock anyone who watches it, but IMO its mindless talk radio with images.
A fundamental shift in the way America gets their information with the 24hr news channels. Pundits and partisan opinion have taken the place of actual reporting. News divisions found out that actual field reporting and maintaining a bureau is very expensive. Inviting a talking head in the studio to speculate costs nothing.
A sad state of affairs when so little is read and the nation relies on sound bites and sensational political rhetoric to shape their conscious.
So, if you wanted to do a Poll on this bill Tom,
what should the question have been?
Something like "Should congress have authorized wire tapping of phone calls originating outside the USA ( or within certain nations, if defined by the bill) and involving suspected terrorists or those who harbor terrosits."
Something that questions the actual facts of the bill, not lib paraphrasing to get the poll results they wanted to get.
Jack McCafferty has long since lost all touch with news and operates 100% on schtick and opinion.

Right on air, every time they do a poll, they state it is non-scientific.

Why because he thinks the current government are a bunch of clowns and wants to see if the public agrees?
No, because he doesn't report news, he reports his feelings and runs stupid polls that are slanted. He is CNN''s version of YOU! :D

here is a poll that represents reality.

Support for the B.S. war continues to fall as more and more wake up to the reality that it was a trumped up job all along.

why do we care what he thinks...shouldn't a reporter..report..and not slant
he didn't even have to say the poll was biased, the wording did that all by itself.

1. It's not assasination if it is true.
2. Do you know what :D means?

Great reply Tom.
You clearly have done more thinking on the question than McAf..
My compliments to you.

By asking a biased, loaded poll question? What a professional he is! And you have the balls to criticize O'Reilly? Man you are a total, 100% hypocrite.

It is talking heads handed general talking point guidlines and so afraid of losing their "access" to whichever side they pick ,and I use side to describe the 5% to the right or left of "center" that is presented on the Oreily,Matthews,Dobbs,CNN,Fox b.s. info-tainment shows, that is the side they will spin toward no matter the facts or background of the story as if those ever matter to them anyway.
Actually I have noticed that among the younger crowd that works for me when I talk with them it seems the more they watch the regular news outlets the LESS they actually know once you get past the spin points that are tossed out daily.
It's like the ability to reason and to question is being sucked out of them!
Also, the self censorship of the US press is just terrible and I think way being the pale.
There are things shown, reported overseas that never are allowed to see the light of day over here.
I can pretty much assure you all that we do not have a monopoly on all that is good and truthfull in the world.
