On this date in 1988 trainer Dale Baird won his 5,000th career race with Stuffed Johnnie at Mountaineer Park, becoming the second trainer in history, behind Jack Van Berg, to reach that mark.

On this date in 1989 Probe, driven by Bill Fahy, and Park Avenue Joe, driven by Ron Waples, finished in a dead heat in the raceoff to decide the Hambletonian at The Meadowlands.

On this date in 2000 Moni Maker, driven by Wally Hennessey, became harness racing's first $5 million winner by winning the $500,000 Nat Ray at The Meadowlands. Her time of 1:52.1 set the world record for trotting mares aged five or older.
