De La Rose

AMANSARA is by War Chant out of a greade three winner with plenty of family members that could run. Off since December, the only question is fitness and with former Pletcher assistant Weaver calling the shots we like her chances; of course the glittering worktab helps. Prado up and this $150K Keeneland grad should relish the easier company. Also MO CUISHLE who also comes off the shelf for the clever Tagg. This $325K yearling scratched out of the Drumtop (perhaps because of the prescence of the easy Godolphin $2.70 winner) and worked a very solid half on turf three days later. Already a Grade III queen she will appreciate these if ready.

TENTH

Beaten her last two at even money and 7-5, RUBAN BLEU has a chance to atone today. Homebred is a half to a grade II million dollar earner and wicked turn time when breaking her mauden shows she has the gears. Mott superb on the lawn and two long turf works followed by sharp blowout spot on. Kent D. one of only five riders ever with a lifetime positive R.O.I. on turf. Also PENSION who hails from one of the best families in the stud book and faces a field of youngsters as the sole 4yo. In her last, a turf sprint, this Seeking the Gold filly was equipped with blinkers and had to steady in traffic in 1:08 and change. Shug's homebred been pointed here for some time, Prado familiar and works have a lot to like. Cannot exclude PROM PARTY although this half to Volponi will need to show more speed with the rail out, for the first time this meet on the Mellon course. Dogwood 2yo auction buy broke her maiden sharply in first blinkers but had no chance in last with the rail out in the Delaware stake; J. R. back up for testosterone Todd. Try 3,9 / 3,7,9 BBB

Rehash

Did not get enough time to 'cap the pick four but have no excuses for the late double. In leg one, the De La Rose, both our fillies ran huge with; Amansara, after major trouble early, looking a winner inside the pole only to be run down late. Barclay's filly also ran big to be beaten a couple of necks for the place.

Congrats to Lady Shirl who scratched in and took Johnny V off the Pletcher runner. Oddly, after her half brother (Shakespeare) won the Cal Tech stakes in his second start, this miss was on the auction block and friends tried to purchase her; but her breeder bid her in @ 170K way out of my friends league. Shakespeare returns today for the same connections!

Lady Shirl did not appear on our ticket because of her wide draw. She is a big flashy chestnut with a long stride and I could not fathom her being close enough, and by the same token she certainly was not going to go around them! Great ride by J. R. to get the money weaving this one thru traffic. A good rule of thumb: If the race starts close to the turn, and the horse(s) on the outside do not have tactical speed, OR are not deep closers, eliminate from your horizontal wagers. Solid advice that went down in flames yesterday further indicating that 'cappin is a tough game. A side note on the well bet Ballet Pacifica (3-1) would be that Biancone has been ice cold since the snake venom accusations and the Minardi 4yo was adding equipment after being a vet scratch in Chicago two weeks ago!

Nice piece of training, as usual, from Mr. Mott with Ruban Bleu ($20.40)grabbing the track and not looking back. Stopping after a wide trip the Broken Vow filly was given two long works on the grass followed by a very sharp blowout. No question she would relish the distance, the green and the cushy post. First turf always a good angle, but am reminded of a comment/post last week, this forum, that said "trainers put horses on the lawn because they are too slow on dirt"! Remarkably naive and woefully inaccurate indeed. PENSION our second selection was off at a big number and got a good seat, but really has no interest in being a racehorse. I suspect maybe an attempt to get a placing in one of these ubiquitous overniight stakes that Campo invents, before being returned to the Claiborne breeding shed. Prom Party also on the ticket was compromised with the rail being up and filled out the bottom of the super. Note: The three post time favorites had huge holes yet ran decent; Tears I Cry (5-2) raced with an aluminum plate, indicating a stone bruise at best and big trouble at worst. She showed zero June works; Lady Carlock (9-2) is a tough ride and with the rail up had little chance and the afore mentioned Prom Party (3-1) also sans speed. These are types to avoid with horizontal wagers. Picking four Friday. BBB

Zilzal is a son of Nureyev out of a Grade II winning Le Fabuleux mare!

Ruban Bleu's dam is Elle Meme. Elle Meme is out of Holy Tobin, who is a half sister to Pasadoble. The latter is the dam of nine time champion MIESQUE.

Billy's barn is always full!!
