Would anyone suggest a brand name?

Come Oct. I will be purchasing a new 'screen'.
I would like the best, considering I spend so much time on the PC.
TV is Kapputz, will not watch it anymore, nothing but crap on it.
So, will get my entertainment by computer. Have a flat screen now
and is very sharp. Like to go flat panel, but not to high on what I have seen.
They seem to be like Polytrack (the dust kicks up)
Would love to get a sharp and crisp one (maybe 21")
Any ideas?

I have a Samsung Syncmaster 204B (20") here and while I can't say it's the best it certainly is "good enough".

For value, Samsung offered the best bang for my buck as well. While others had minimal contrast ratios in the 600/700-1 range, theirs were resonably priced in the 1000/3000-1 range.

Contrast ratio should be your first shopping point when buying a monitor. I would recommend 1000-1 minimum and try to get 3000-1 or more if you can find the right deal.

Several weeks ago I got a great deal from Dell on 4 24" Widescreen Samsung SyncMasters for $360/ea. Hell of a deal & dynamite monitors.

I didn't forget guys. Thanks for your input.

Looks like a Samsung

Choosing between two:

2ms response time; 1000:1 contrast ratio; 300 cd/mē brightness; 1680 x 1050 resolution; 170° horizontal and vertical viewing angles; DVI-D input

or

2 ms response time; 3000:1 contrast ratio; 300 cd/mē brightness; 1680 x 1050 resolution; 160° horizontal and vertical viewing angles; DVI-D input

Same exact monitors except top one is HiDef and bottom has better CRatio. Just about the same price. I watch a lot of foreign movies in HD (Asian), or should I go for the higher contrast ratio??
Going to see them this week, if I can actually see a big difference, it will be an easy decision.

Big,

Have read that the Plasma TV makers fudge on the published contrast numbers. Can only assume they do the same on moniters.

Please, let us know the viewing difference.

boy oh boy, i sure copy that "nothing on TV" its 90% crapola.

here's a thought, since puters dont last more than 5 or 10 years.
many stores will give away a monitor when you buy a certain Puter.

....are not cheap to run; CNN Money Matter's did a story about
keeping the use of electricity down last month when the heat
wave hit the West Coast last month.....and a 42" Plasma T.V.
cost approx. $0.50 an HOUR !! If you're like me, I keep the main T.V.
on CNN News 24/7....that's $12 a day...........Me, I'd rather put that
$ 12 on an exacta or longshot...at least you have a chance to make
something. Unless YOU can really see the difference....go Hi-Def. IMHO

Looks like a Samsung

Going to see them this week, if I can actually see a big difference, it will be an easy decision.I love mine! A couple of months ago, I bought 2 Samsung LCD Monitors:

SAMSUNG 226BW Black 22" 2 ms (GTG) DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 700:1(DC 3000:1)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001096

So far, the only regret is that I didn't buy three!

Although there are 3 Manufacturers of this puppy and some issues, I ended up going with it after seeing it at BestBuy.

Be careful when viewing monitors at the store, however! It turned out to be a somewhat difficult decision as there was a late entry: Westinghouse! Yup, you read right! :faint:

Westinghouse L2410NM Glossy Black 24" 8ms Widescreen LCD Monitor 500 cd/m2 1000:1 Built in Speakers
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824255001
It even has SVHS & RCA Video input - Hook up you VCR/DVD! The buttons are on the side and somewhat hard to get to, however. Also, goes to 'blue screen' when inactive. See the Newegg user comments.

Here's a Tip if you're not already doing it: Grab the Sunday Insert advertising section. In-addition to looking at the BestBuy, CompUSA, and CircuitCity ads; don't forget to check out OfficeDepot, Staples, and OfficeMax Stores. They have great sale prices on Monitors, Hard Drives, Printers, etc, good for the week.
