On this date in 1975 Locust Hill Farm's undefeated filly Ruffian engaged Kentucky Derby winner Foolish Pleasure in a match race at Belmont Park. Racing on the lead, Ruffian sustained a severe leg injury and was pulled up by jockey Jacinto Vasquez. The filly was euthanized the following day when efforts to save her proved futile.

On this date in 1977, in the second of their 10 meetings, Alydar defeated Affirmed to win the Great American Stakes at Belmont Park. This was the first of Alydar's three victories over Affirmed.

On this date in 1996 Continentalvictory, driven by Mike Lachance, won the Yonkers Trot by two lengths over Kramer Boy in 1:56.2 at Yonkers Raceway.

On this date in 2001 Mystical Mike, driven by Ross Leonard, equalled the track record for pacing at Maywood Park, winning in 1:51.2.

thanks for the post!

A friendly reminder that this type of post will NOT count towards the 100 post minimum requirement for those folks playing in the PTC Handicapping Challenge AND whose "Join Date" is after June 27.

I don't know if you plan on playing in the contest or not, but I just wanted to point this out as an example to others who might be playing and who registered after the contest was announced.

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming....
