I keep getting messages that the new version is ready to download, but in the deatils it tells me that some Java stuff will not work if I install it. I keep refusing it because of this. The last thing I need is some new program that does crap to my system I don't need or want. That's why I only use IE when I have to. Is FF trying to emulate MS of what?

Alos, this MS WGA update - I keep refusing that, too. Has anyone downloaded either of these, and what damage have they done?

Thanks

It is not telling you Java won't work, it is telling you it isn't going to use the old plug-in in order to make it work... There are a few changes though that may or may not annoy you....

Just update your Java (http://www.java.com/en/download/) as specified here (http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/faq#q2.2)

You can also get Firefox plugins here (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:7)

FYI - FF is out to 2.0.0.3 (probably the version Tom is getting the message about)

OK - I'm at 2.0.0.4.

How can I try to reproduce the problem?

You didn't sleep through much, they jumped from 1.5.0.12 straight to 2.x series.

Tom, you know more about this crap than I do, and I know that sinking feeling.
I hesitated when I saw the message also, but finally downloaded. Purposely went and used some sites where Java is needed, didn't have any problems with it.
FF is the best, use IE for 5% of the time.

DJ,

Where did you see this? They just announced the release of 2.0.0.5 today.

Oops - my bad!

I must have misread the pop up window announcing an update was available. 2.0.0.5 is what I have now.

But it still all good.
