The only one I know of is the Extended Stay on Valley View. Valley View is the cross street to Flamingo that is between the Palms and the Rio.

If I had to guess, it's about a half a mile from the Gold Coast. Walking might be difficult as you would have to cross Flamingo. Have never been in the place, so I can't comment on the area or the hotel.

Otherwise, if the Coast still has their shuttles from Barbary and Orleans, you could branch out and hop a shuttle. Also, there used to be one running from Bally's to Rio. Haven't stayed at Bally's for a while, so don't know if they still have it. Travel Lodge on the Strip? LaQuinta by the Orleans? There are probably others I'm not thinking of.

Aren't casinos are cheaper to stay in probably a bit more upscale even for the price. I know you have to put up with walking through one, but hey you're in Vegas.

Casino room rates on the strip aren't as cheap as they used to be. $29 rooms have gone away just like the $2.99 buffets. Vegas has learned there is money to be made at the casino tables AND the dining room tables.

But I have to admit, I can't imagine going to Vegas and NOT staying at a nice strip hotel.

i wasn't saying cheap, just a better value. I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing that any hotel without a casino will be a lesser value for both the rooms and hotel services.

I've stayed at all the good ones at least 3 times. For my money the best value on the strip is Treasure Island. Great location and not expensive.

Yeah I agree, but I'm not sure he is really looking for "value".

There's still a few dinosaur motels around the strip. When I lived in Las Vegas, they were no cheaper than a pretty nice mid level casino room.

I recalled a Travelodge in the area, and bingo, there's one on the strip and Harmon, which is midway between Tropicana and Flamingo. The Gold Coast is on Flamingo, on the other side of the Interstate, maybe a mile and a half away. But remember, a mile and a half in 107+ degrees, even ducking in and out of casinos in between, is not pretty.

The last couple times I was in Vegas for extended periods I stayed at the Alexis Park Resort. Not inexpensive:rolleyes:, but all suites of varying levels and no casino. For a short stay I will not go anywhere, but The Palms .

I don't know where the Extended Stay is located, but I have been to many and endorse them highly

Of course i don't know where you live....but i couldn't imagine flying in to Las Vegas from afar and not staying at one of the casino/hotels. Pick the race book you like and stay there. Just hit one solid exacta or trifecta per day and cover the cost! The pool area with the eye candy, the nice bars/restaurants, shows and exercise spas are a bonus!

There is an extended stay about 1/4 mile from the Gold Coast. Rates will run about $70 to $80 a night. I talkled to a guy who got ten days there for $500. I don't know how he did it.

There is a Budget Suites on Tropicana and Wynn about 1 1/2 miles from the Gold Coast for around $250 a week. They have a full refrigerator, stove, TV and ethernet for your PC.

The Gold Coast actually has pretty decent rates. I'm guessing it's something like 39-59 weekdays and 69-89 weekends. Once the WSOP is over they might even go down.

I strongly recommend using this website to find Vegas hotel rooms:

http://p070.ezboard.com/bpricelineandexpediabidding

Basically, this is a cheat site where folks (like me) post their successful bids from Priceline.com (preferred) or Hotwire. You must read the FAQ to fully understand the approach and follow the instructions exactly. I have purchased hotel rooms in Boston, New York, Houston and Las Vegas as well as across Europe with this site and easily saved more than $2000. For a while, people were successful to get rooms at Bellagio and Venetian for $99/night.

Another website which I really like was www.redweek.com (http://www.redweek.com) where you can buy people's unwanted timeshare rooms. I got a week in a very nice timeshare near Aladdin for about $600 last November. Another excellent choice.

Another website which I really like was www.redweek.com (http://www.redweek.com)I was just going to suggest this. You caould probably find a week for rent as well. Look at the Club de Soleil and the Tahiti resort, both on W. Tropicana, a 'Vegas' block and a half from the Gold Coast. You might rent a week for what they pay for annual maintenance, around $400.
And, Fred, thanks too for the other tip.

I know that Larry did not want to stay in a casino/hotel, but this seems like a nice deal at The MGM Grand if your dates are available.

Excuse the slightly off topic remarks, but since economizing seems to be rather a factor, have an alternative suggestion;skip Las Vegas and go to Laughlin instead.$25 rooms during the week, double that on weekends.Six racebooks in town, while not as fancy as those on the Strip, will do just fine.
