My friend has a new Apple laptop, and she also has an account with Daily Racing Form for complete PP access.
She can get the PP's online everyday, but they come up very small print....on her 12" screen, about 1/4 of the page is the tiny pp's.
She doesn't know how to enlarge them.
Would any of you guys know if she can do this?
How? (in simple terms....please).
If she gets a printer? Would it print real tiny as well?

Thanks in advance.

So.Cal,

Naturally I assume you mean PDF PP's from the DRF. When you say “new” does that mean new to your friend or a brand new machine?

If you're using OSX 10.2 thru 10.49 the latest Adobe Acrobat PDF reader here (http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2_allversions_nojs2.html?option=full&platform=Mac_10.2.8&language=English&x=100&y=16). Delete the old Adobe on that machine first.

You may also try the built in OSX PDF reader. Go to your application folder and look for a program called “Preview.”

In any case, all PDF readers have an enlarge option on top of the toolbar. Simply enlarge any document by the desired amount. 50%, 100% 500%, etc.....

Printing can be somewhat tricky. Apple monopolistic control of both their software and hardware ensure third party printers may not work properly.

What OSX version are you using?
What PDF reader are you using?
Are you using Safari as the primary browser? Problematic with DRF website.

Gibbon, let me find out, the woman is a trainer at Santa Anita. When I talk to her, I'll give her your questions.

Thanks.

I'm trying to help her right now over the phone.
I know what it is on a PC, but is it similar on the Mac?

And there should be a small "x" just like in Ralph's picture (right to the left of his circle) where you can click to get rid of the tiny pp's covering the column on the left.

It should be - the one I'm looking at is a UNIX version (MAC is also UNIX)

She has a Mac OS X version 10.4.9
I went and checked it out, and it seems you can't expand the DRF PPs.
You have to take a picture of them, from you computer.....then you can expand the picture.
The computer is new, she is going to pay a small extra fee and have support and/or lessons on it for as long as she has the computer from the Apple Store in her town.
The cool thing about this computer is she can click onto a live camera of her barn and watch any horses stall, 24/7. It is very useful if there is a sick animal that needs to be monitored.
She showed me how that worked and it was really cool.
The downside is we couldn't get the PPs to expand.

This is far to complicated. It does sound like your friend is using the built in PDF reader in OSX 10.4+.

The latest version of Adobe for Mac is 8.1. http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2_allversions_nojs2.html?option=full&platform=MacPPC_10.4.3&language=English&x=112&y=14 Ignore my previous suggestion for Adobe in post #2. That references an older version.

Also, PDF reader - http://skim-app.sourceforge.net/index.html is great for manipulating font sizes.

Everything Windows can do Macs can do better. At least Steve Jobs says so.

For a compete study of Macs and PDF's:

My crank research team {my eldest son} has informed me not to open a PDF file in Safari browser.

Whatever PDF reader you're using, go into preferences and click on the appropriate box where it says to open a PDF document in a separate windows NOT in Safari. Good Luck.

okay, I sent the information, hopefully the guy who is helping her with her computer can figure this out.
I just knew there had to be an easier way to read a DRF pp.
Thanks again.

At lunch today one of the men walks in with a brand new apple laptop just purchased at the local Apple store. Question was asked "is that for me?". Answer was that it was a high school graduation present for his nephew at the party tommorrow.

We should all be so lucky but I would be willing to guess the kid will not even be impressed.
