I know it's not an anniversary of anything John Henry, but he's still going strong and has so many fans, here's bio.

Anyone within driving distance of Lexington should go and visit the old gentleman. We may not have him too much longer.

I'd love to go see him! I hear he's pretty crabby most of the time. :)

I was at Anita when he won the San Luis Obispo. That one had a presence I have only seen in a few others.

Stood at the rail of the walking ring two races earlier to get a close look at him......

I guess he does have a tender side...

I apologize for repeating myself, but one of my most memorable racetrack experiences involves old John.

My brother worked for Proctor during part of John’s run in So Cal. Of course when I visited I had to see the old man. We went down McAnally’s shed row until we got to a stall with some version of chicken wire on it. The only stall like it I have ever seen. They caged this mean SOB like Hannibal Lector.

There was not a single worker on the staff that he hadn’t at least bitten and some tried to kill. I often thought this is why he won so many photos over the years. You pass him and you have to deal with him after.

Legendary heart  and one of the meanest animals ever to look through a bridle.
