I'll venture a guess - the first figure is the 4 furlong time at each purse level, and the rest of the row is the par time for each distance...4>4.5>5....... by purse value.

Thanks Tom, that could be it. So I've taken the 50 thousand dollar purse line.

At 4 furlongs the "pars" are 45.2 seconds.
At 6 furlongs they are 110.2 seconds.

But what does it mean? Are they from a specific track. If so which one?
Different tracks have different par times.
45.2 would never cut it in Southern Cal.
B.O. has given us a jig saw puzzle for our birthday. But there are pieces missing.

That's what I thought. But everything is so linear. :confused: Each time (and each split?)goes up 0.1 seconds for each drop in purse level. So the difference in the 4f par and the 7.5f par is 34.8 seconds whether it is a $2000 purse (1 minutes 32.5-47.7)or a $100,000 purse?(1minute 29 and 44.2) :confused: .

Yes. That's what it is. I should have said that.

The problem though is even if you know that so what?
Is it on dirt, turf, or polytrack?
Is it for one track, New York State, all tracks?
There is just too much missing information for a man of B.O.'s status to leave out.
It's like me telling you that the score in the ball game was 6 to 3.

Purse value may have once equalled class but not now....at least not all the time. Look at the purses at some of the bush tracks with slots like Mountaineer. The quality of the fields does not correspond to the size of the purse.

Coming up with a standard "purse par" and assigning a variant to each track would take care of that. This is an interesting avenue to pursue.

Hello Banacek:

If you look at the purse level for 100k at 7.0 and 7.5 the last 1/16th of a mile at that level according to Bill is run or should be run in 6.2 seconds and at the 10k level it's exactly the same projected time of 6.2. If you look at the 100k level the time for the half is 44.2 and the 6F time is 70.2 (but that should be 69.2 typo error). That means if the race is 6F the last 1/4 should be run in 25 sec but if you look at the 10k or 5k level the last 1/4 should be run in 25 sec. Something is not right there. It might be a start to something but changes must be made because each purse level can't have the same come home time as par times.

I'm with Gary G on this one.

Slots and Casinos have thrown class out of whack. Maybe true stake races you can still apply class.
