I've been looking at exacta betting (which is so much more annoying than analyzing my effectiveness on win bets). I know an "exacta box" of 3 horses means that any of those 3 horses can come in 1st and 2nd in any order, right? I'm under the impression that a $2 exacta box of 3 horses costs 12 dollars.

Now, say I predict a race goes A, B, C. If I want to bet an exacta box on A/B and another on A/C, is there an easier way to convey that?

Also, is there tipping of the pools the same as in the WPS pools? I'm not exactly sure how the amount returned on an exacta bet is determined, so if anyone has any explanation/links pertaining to that, I'd appreciate it.

What you are talking about is known as wheeling.

I think this link will help you:
http://www.abqdowns.com/betting-guide

From that link:
For instance, in an Exacta, the player may like # 6 to finish first. He would then Key # 6 on top of a combination of other horses. That horse, # 6 would have to finish first and one of other choices second for the bettor to collect.

Exacta Wheel Example: Player Keys # 6 on top (to win), and #'s 1, 2, and 4 in second. Bettor collects if # 6 wins the race, and any of the others finish second. Cost: $6.

Exacta Wheel Example: Key # 9 on top, and #'s 2, 5, 6, 7, 10, and 11 in second. Collect if 9 finishes first and any of the others places. Cost: $12.

A very good legal description on how the exacta pool works can be found here:
