I am suprised that no on this Board has brought this up.

They are going to use 'MONEY LAUNDERING" as the vehicle to push it through.

Any one want to speculate who is behind it ? Interesting that the Senator from Nevada is sponsoring it.

*yawn*

Point #1. Of course Nevada legislators would push this. Casinos don't like any competition for the bettor's $$.

Point #2. All this will do is push players to offshore accounts, where clearly the danger of getting fleeced is much greater.

I guarantee that not ONE person that presently bets over the 'net w/b deterred by this. Offshore accounts will get flooded w/ new accounts if the law passes.

In the 20s "they" tried to outlaw alcohol by pushing the morality angle....People still drank whenever they wanted.

Later years, "they" outlawed marijuana, "assault weapons", etc, yet these banned items are there for anyone that wishes to obtain them.

I don't doubt that this law *may* someday pass, but it's much like the seat belt law in my home state. It's clearly an unenforceable law. Law enforcement has bigger things to deal with and will look for more important issues to take on.

Reid is an idiot. Unfortunately, he is good at it.

From all I heard Nevada Casinos for internet gaming; they want to get in on it. Seen as the "coming thing" and the next best source of revenue.
Dave, you're right: Harry Reid:Idiot.

Actually, at lunch the other day with my attorney-friend, he told me that the gaming control board has reversed its position because the Nv Supreme court advised that it wpuld be illegal.

We use our money buying porn on the net ,instead of wasting it on something as evil as gambling.I swear ,sometimes I think it would be more acceptable to be an alcoholic wife beating porn junkie than be known as a gambler or horseplayer.

I was thinking O.K. corral at noon on Saturday -- but damn -- I'll be doing a seminar for the GSC. ---- Glad DS was talking about some senator from AZ or somewhere the sun bakes the brain and scorpions suck the best part out through the ear.

They are ALL idiots. that Canadian who called Bush a moron was sooooooo right-on the money. Our country is dying from Mexicancer-illegal aliens invading our country and destroying it from within, and none of those losers in DC have the balls to do thing one about it.
Today, I spent 45 minutes getting through airport security in Detroit. Then, in the Mediterrainan Grill, next to gate 56, I was given a metal fork and KNIFE with my dinner!!!!!!
FerGod's sake........this country is breeding stupidity and we are paying for it. It is way past humorous---this nation is sick and it is going to die if we don't get rid of every sinlgle incumbent every election-NO repeat term EVER!!!!!! For anyone!!!!! THAT is where it is ripe for cheating, Reid, you moron!
PS, Reid - Help America be strong, dont' wear your seatbelt!

Purple Power,

Actually, the Honorable Reid is from Nevada. Gee, do you think he has an ax to grind in preventing gambling everywhere he can?

My sister lives in Vegas and hates it. Says the casinos run everything, the city, the state, etc. Reid is a total sleaze, in the pockets of the casinos -- but every pol in Nevada is, wouldn't matter who you voted for.

And for all those who think I never criticize Democrats -- the Clinton administration was totally in the tank to the casinos who gave him a ton of money.

Tom, I'm beginning to agree with you about this country. I swear, if I could find a good job in Toronto, I'd move there in a heartbeat -- once we invade Iraq and Al Qaeda retaliates here, no one will be safe in the U.S. When I go overseas I always tell people I'm Canadian.

Gee, I've lived in Vegas 26 yrs and love it. BTW, without the casinos this would be a "ghost-state"

Mr. Reid has apparently never read the Commerce clause. The first appellate court this issue hits will laugh Reid right out of town.

He must be crazy, because the casinos want internet gambling for their own sites.

All the best,

Jag,

Actually, the casinos don't want them. But if everyone else is going to get a piece, they want theirs.

Nevada casinos are currently operating web casinos in other parts of the world, but they will not take bets from Americans.

Siouxper,

If you get drunk and drive your car over a bridge, killing a woman, they elect you as a Senator many times over in Massechusetts. It's a funny world.

Here's an article on the subject I thought some of you might be interested in:

http://www.tvbarn.com/archives/007466.html

My favourite bit:

"For instance, an ethically challenged gambler might start an account with any one of several hundred on-line casinos, depositing, say, $5,000 using his credit card. Let's also stipulate that this gambler quickly is able to turn that $5,000 investment into a $20,000 nest egg. After collecting his $15,000 in winnings, via a cashier's check, that customer conceivably could pick up the phone and complain to Visa that his initial deposit was a mistake. "

"With the charge-back, the casino would be out a total of $20,000, plus whatever it's fined by Visa for taking the action in the first place."

Why are they out $20000? Didn't the guy win $15000 of that money?

AD Maybe, but I doubt it.If the off shore bookies book their bets, technically they would have lost the money. But some funnel the money back to the track so they don't have the risk.BUT,the fact is this has not been a problem, the problem is collecting such a large payoff from the off shore book.I have heard more problems in collecting than about companies complaining they lost money in charge backs.
