Does anyone have a list of classes in order? Including the nw's, optionals, etc?

In order of what? If I understand your question it can really vary from track to track- ie; when looking at various allowance classes compared to claiming

Yeah, I know that these things vary from track to track. I'm not too interested in comparing alw to clm just yet. Just wanting something to get me started, then I will adjust more finely. I could find this info myself, but if someone already has them listed in order it would save me some time initially. Particularly interested in how the nw's line up.

I play HOU, LS, TUP, etc., mostly middle of the road tracks and mostly claiming races in the lower price ranges. In other words, cheaper animals that have more volatile form cycles and more separation in ratings.

I don't play larger tracks or higher priced animals, too many good ones in there and too hard to separate them.

Your best bet would be to go to each track that you are looking for and then copy the index in the condition book. It would not be in perfect order but you will have all the conditions run at that specific track.

Here is how I do it: I make speed figures for every track that I am following, usually 2 or maybe 3. From the figures you can see the cross over point between claiming and the various allowance levels. This way you know for sure which ones are dropping in class. I don't know of any other way, as all tracks are different. Especially the smaller ones. If you don't want to fool with figures just keep a log of final times for the various classes. Or,if you use the form SR + TV. Good luck.

Raybo,

After reading this post you made from the other day, I am surprised you didn't already know everything there is to know about class level?

[Quote from Raybo post]Not trying to offend anyone here with my post, but I did post the screenshot of my AmericaTab record in a previous thread, showing $400 turn into $7700 in about 4 months time, not with win bets however. I don't really care what you guys are doing but I would like to see the superfecta pools get even better, thus part of my reasoning for advocating exotics over WPS wagering.

Do I note a touch of sarcasm in your post? :p The previous thread included wagers at LS, Hou, and TUP. I am now venturing into more holding tracks where class plays a larger part in the handicapping. I had a rudimentary class structure previously, but need to refine that for these new tracks. I never said I had everything figured out, no one does. There is always room for improvement and it's an ongoing task.

How about using speed pars as a guage for determining class? Brisnet has them available in all their data files, even the cheap $1 DRF Single/Multiple File Formats. Do you think that, by now, with all the data in their DB they would have a pretty good grip on class levels at every track in the US? I'm not interested in the accuracy of the pars themselves, only the relationship they represent between class levels.

A quick wqay to do this is look at a few cards and se how many horses in the PPs can meet the "par." Or better yet, compare some tracks to each other.

Appreciate it, sjk. Are these your proprietary pars based on your own speed numbers or are they based on publically obtainable speed pars?

They are mine. They don't need them to be individually correct to meet my needs and it would take only seconds for me to find some that don't seem to make sense. I don't do this since trying to fine-tune all of the pars would be a big job and wouldn't make a lot of difference to me from a practical standpoint.

Before you use BRIS pars for anything,, I suggest - strongly - you do some research into them. Last I looked, they were not track/class generated, but nationally based on purse values. This was a while ago, worth verifying.
A quick wqay to do this is look at a few cards and se how many horses in the PPs can meet the "par." Or better yet, compare some tracks to each other.

Tom, I will check with Brisnet but I assume the speed pars are based on the speed ratings Bris assigns to every horse in the US (and other tracks they cover) that crosses a finish line.

My unscientific read on BRIS pars is that they are generally higher ... and very often considerably higher ... than the best past-year final speeds of most runners in a race. I watch a pretty broad array of tracks (LA, AZ, FL, NY/NJ, CA, KY) and it's not at all uncommon to find no runners within 3 points of final-speed par.

(For my purposes, it's a very good thing that I have no idea whatsoever how to use anybody's pars. )

Joe is right -- go to each track's website and download/print the condition book. Read it, follow it, etc.

There is a great deal of information in the book, and most people do not even -- know it exists, read it, or even bother looking at it for that matter.
