Exacta- Money Making System,

also known as the Bill Dallas System.

Here's the scenario: 6 to 8 horse field. Odss-On fav (solid fav),

second favorite at odds: 2-1 or 5/2.

Play= Fav w/ 3rd fav & 4th fav.

This system hits very often, and you get a natural overlay when the second favorite fails to come in.

The natural underlay here is the Fav- 2nd fav exacta.

Anyone else tested this system?

All comments welcome.

Thanks,

In Railey's book exacta expose he has the combo 1-3 and 1-4, where 1 is the favorite and 3 the 3rd choice and 4 the 4th choice losing 16 cents and 17 cents on the dollar-that is for all odds.

In one relatively small sample of exactas that he has I added them up and playing the 1-2 combo when the odds are 7-5 or less hits for about 14% of the time and loses 4 cents on the dollar.

He doesn't have a break out for all odds and on combos but for heavy favorites of 1-5 and 2-5 he has a chart showing combos 1-2,1-3,1-4,1-5 hitting about 16% of the time and winning 6 cents on the $. I beleive you would get a bet once over 40 races and a win 16% or see a win once every 6 or 7 bets or once every 250 races. But his is a ll pretty small sample It hink he is working from just 8111 races.

I enjoyed reading Railey's book. Certainly, using the overall win percentage of an exacta combination based on the pari-mutuel rank (favorite, second choice, etc.) of the horses making up the combination as a generic value gauge is better than just guessing. But that still doesn't tell you whether each horse's rank represents an underlay or an overlay to begin with, so that you can determine whether the combination is offering value based on the specific horses in it.

All my big hits in my life had to do with beating favorites, not playing them.
Those are what makes or breaks you in the long run. The track takeout is way too high to fool around with favorites.

On the other hand, from my observations, more money is lost trying to beat solid favorites than any other strategy.
The trick is to be able to tell the difference between a solid favolrite and a false one and betting accordingly.

Favorites, especially short priced ones, have a very high percentage of getting into the Exacta. Routinely excluding them just because they're favorites is a very risky strategy.

I would have hated to miss the $101 Derby Exacta by not including the favorite.
