Downs hopes schedule seizes momentum by Bill Gann

… "I think it's all about momentum, creating it with your traditionally big days, and then letting that momentum carry you through the slower periods," Midland explained.

He further clarified the notion by pointing out that he noticed that Louisiana Downs' biggest days during the 2006 meeting (Champions Day and Super Derby Day) were attended by a slight jump in the vital figures, both before and after the big days themselves. Why not, then, create a schedule which allowed for more of these "big days", spread out in such a way as to revitalize the racing image of the track, both locally and nationally, at times when historically the track has needed a kind of B-12 shot?

… The two-day stakeless opening weekend was unprecedented in itself and cause for some speculation, both positive and negative, from track habitues. But it was probably a good idea, simply because the Kentucky Derby and the national press are going to ensure that this track and every other race track and OTB parlor in the country are going to have a big day, regardless of how much the individual tracks spend on advertising or what kind of racing cards they put together for that weekend.

… Whether the new stakes schedule is successful, only time will tell. But for now, it appears to be a new and intelligent approach whose goal is to alleviate, if not solve, some old and thorny problems.

skates approval, yes sir, sounds like a good idea.

makes no sense to wait all meet for the better races.

give er a go.

and , try an extention on the time between races. say 40 min, give the skate a little more time, im gettin old, slowing down, i need time.
