Not much to choose from in the French elections - Right of Center Sarkozy vs. Socialist Royal. Royal winning would give France its first female president.
Interesting social subset in France - many of the same issues are facing them as we are here - immigration/assimilation and the disappearance of the manufacturing sector in the economy.

Who knows what ideological labels mean anymore, but (at one time at least) Conservative versus Socialist would have represented a very clear choice.
But they are all French, right?

Bayrou's followers (he was third in the voting) will be the swing vote - the general election is 2 weeks away - this was similar to their primary but everybody is in. Le Pen was 4th at 11% though his style can be grating, many things he has brought to the table in prior elections have come to the forefront in the political landscape.
I go there a few times a year for work; primarily to Paris and Strasbourg. Both interesting places, though I tend to enjoy Strasbourg a bit more with the French/Germanic background of the people.
