Since switching from Adelphia to Roadrunner, I am still getting SPAM addressed to my old adelphia address?
Anything I can do?

Thanks in advance

Are you getting any mail from your new address? That is, did you reconfigure your e-mail client to your new e-mail address?

Hi Bill,
yes, I'm getting email from my friends. I gave them my new address.
The email addressed to the old adelphia address is just spam, all of it.
Anything from mortgage ads, buy meds online and enlarge your member, and some stock market service ads.
Is there anything I can do, besides report it to Roadrunner, which I did today, haven't heard back from them yet.

Diane,

What program are you using to read your e-mail?

Outlook Express 6

I'm guessing that you have not removed your old account with Adelphia (and they haven't turned your account off yet on their server - they are incompetent that way :) )

In Outlook click on the "tools" menu then on "accounts" - if the Adelphia account is listed highlight it then click on "remove"

If this doesn't work call for Ralph ;)

Clicked on tools/accounts
There it was.....removed it. We'll see if that does the trick.
I was getting a hundred BS spams a day.
Thanks, Bill.
You guys always know how to solve a problem.
I've always said handicappers are some of the smartest people around.
It's true.

cherish the small victories ...........nice work Bill..........

remember Diane............don't ever reply to a spam email.......asking to be removed. It only validates that the address is good.......and it gets resold..........

Thanks, Ralph,
you told me that years ago, I never have.
Good advice.
While I was bothered by spam, others I know get a lot more.

I was still getting some mail addressed to adelphia.net
I went into the control panel, and changed the mail server to roadrunner, same as I had in the accounts in tools on outlook express.
I believe this will stop the adelphia mail.
Just in case anyone else has the same problem.
Thanks again,
DS

Now I'm still getting spam addressed to adelphia address/es
I wrote to Roadrunner, but didn't seem to get much help.
They have software you can install, but I already have Spy Sweeper and Nod32 Anti-Virus software that I pay for.
I use my Spy Sweeper almost everyday, to get rid of spy cookies.
I run NOD at least once a month and never have any problems.
Anyone have any suggestions.......?????
I have NEVER replied to a spam.

If you insist on using Internet Exploiter, go into the internet options and turn off:

ALL ActiveX Controls
Java
Persistent Cookies (only allow session cookies)
Userdata Persistence
Enable Install and Demand
And any other option that you don't need.

Here is some free software for you to download. Add these to your protection arsenal:

Adaware (http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10639408.html?tag=pop.software)

Spybot Search and Destroy (http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10401314.html?tag=lst-0-1)

If your not running a firewall then get:

Zonealarm (http://www.download.com/ZoneAlarm/3000-10435_4-10653297.html?tag=lst-0-4)

Don't need to pay for antivirus but Nod32 is pretty good:

AVG Free AntiVirus (http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10645435.html?tag=pop.software)

Consider using another browser and email program. (You will need the pop and smtp info from your provider in order to setup an email account):

Mozilla Firefox & Mozilla Thunderbird (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/)

Install the software and download all of the updates then Disable System Restore as malware can hide there making it harder to remove:

Disable System Restore (http://www.pchell.com/virus/systemrestore.shtml)

Reboot your computer in safe mode:

Hit the F8 key when you first turn on the computer. This should boot into safe mode.

Run the scans for each program and follow the prompts/menu's to remove spyware, etc.

Reboot a 2nd time into safe mode and repeat the scans.

PM me privately if you would like to install Linux and avoid all the hassles and costs of M$ crap OS's....
