It is traditional at seasonal courses to not ovetax the stock the first few weeks into a season. Most northern courses which have an isolated horse base i.e. Stampede Park, Hastings Park, Woodbine, etc. do this every season.

For many, this the only shot they have at winning all year.
Ohters need the work. The track is not open for too long for workouts prior to opening day.

Besides, the starting gate is stick in the mud....be May before they dig it out. :rolleyes:
