In the Ark Derby, Curlin returns in his 3rd lifetime start after his impressive win in the Rebel, where he showed he could stretch out from a great sprint win with an excellent figure in his 1st time in a stakes race. In Deadly Dealer, we have a horse who is trying to do a Curlin on Curlin, coming off a great sprint win and trying a stakes for the 1st time in his 3rd lifetime start, who is coming off an even more impressive figure.

I give the edge to Curlin since he has already accomplished what DD is attempting. C has also showed he can rate while DD has always raced on the lead. In addition, C has drawn post 2 while DD may lose ground with his poor 10 post position and other speed horses drawn inside of him.

Officer Rocket ran well in the Rebel despite being trapped on the rail and should benefit from the early pace if he can get a good trip.

Someone is serious enough about this animal to bring in Baze to ride but his style just puts him too far back unless they try a considerable change of tactic. If the favorite runs out of gas, this one will be moving toward him, but that will probably happen after the line.

Very true about Officer Rocket, the jock gave him a less than stellar ride. He rushed him up too soon on the backstretch, then had to rein him in and I think the horse just likes to make one big run. Hopefully, the jock got a little familiar with him in the last and can give him a better ride this time. If its wet, then i think he moves up , as he beat a horse named, Street Sense in the Arlington BC futurity on a wet track, albeit at a one turn mile.. Maybe they have been laying in the weeds with him, who knows, the price should be better this time than the 3/1 wiseguy $$ last out.

No I think you're right that the deep closers are not likely to win but all they have to do is clunk up for a piece to fill out a trifecta. Steppenwolfer and REd Raymond used to spend their days chasing Lawyer Ron around this track. With no hope of catching him. But the longer races here do seem weed out all the early speed types.

There are so many off the pace types here, the trifecta could be juicy.

Fill in the blanks.Correct no horse has won in this manner and Curlin will not win in three weeks. Curlin did not beat anything. Absolutely horrible field in today's race and makes Rebel look weak as well.

Curlin will probably develop into very nice racehorse. But, Kentucky Derby with 19 other horses and 10 furlongs will be his likely undoing.
