Fewer pledge allegiance to the GOP
A poll says 35% of those surveyed identify with Republicans. Public attitudes seem to be drifting toward Democrats' values.
By Janet Hook, Times Staff Writer

WASHINGTON — Public allegiance to the Republican Party has plunged during George W. Bush's presidency, as attitudes have edged away from some of the conservative values that fueled GOP political victories, a major survey has found.

The survey, by the nonpartisan Pew Research Center for the People & the Press, found a "dramatic shift" in political party identification since 2002, when Republicans and Democrats were at rough parity. Now, 50% of those surveyed identified with or leaned toward Democrats, whereas 35% aligned with Republicans

I guess it's because all repugs in office are-what's that silly term?-RHINOs

Of course if you don't count the die hards on this board, 35% drops to 10!!!

I am in the midst of Woodward's State of Denial and am amazed at the overt incompetence of Rummy who got everyting wrong from Day One, kept getting it wrong in spite of the armed forces commander's complaints and no one questioned the idiot as more and more deaths are thanks to these morons.

Another interesting story he relates is how the first time the rutabaga got his name in the papers was after "branding" a fellow Deke with a coat hanger as part of a fraternity prank gone bad. Why am I not surprised!

Further proof this book is all about attacking this administration. Seriously, How long and how far did this "investigative reporter" have to search to find this little tid-bit. How is this relevant to anything.

Well then, should be no problem implimenting the Demwit vision of American.
Let see where do we begin.

Highest tax bracket at 90%.
Manditory Gay awareness training complete with diversity training (Gay Porn)
Open borders
Free health care for all within our borders
Churches banned from main public streets so as to not affend those who take offense at the mere sight of a cross - after all they have a right not to be offended.
Internal combustion engine banned unless you can afford the carbon credits.

I honestly believe if we let the Demwits have their way for 5 years, they'd mess things up so bad they couldn't get elected as dog catcher.

.....increased public support for the social safety net, signs of growing public concern about income inequality, and a diminished appetite for assertive national security policies have improved the political landscape for the Democrats as the 2008 presidential campaign gets underway.

.....The study of the public's political values and attitudes by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press – the most recent in a series of such reports dating back to 1987 – finds a pattern of rising support since the mid-1990s for government action to help disadvantaged Americans. More Americans believe that the government has a responsibility to take care of people who cannot take care of themselves, and that it should help more needy people even if it means going deeper into debt.

.....These attitudes have undergone a major change since 1994, when the Republicans won control of Congress. In particular, 54% say the government should help more needy people, even if it adds to the nation's debt, up from just 41% in 1994. All party groups are now more supportive of government aid to the poor, though Republicans remain much less supportive than Democrats or independents if it means adding to the deficit.

Duh!hcap,
Just wanted to let you know how much I still enjoy your posts. As more people seem to be speaking out (not here, of course ;)) against the war and the Rep malfeasance that eclipses that by Dems, I've been less distracted from racing-related issues.

I am disappointed that the Dems haven’t appeared more effective so far. I wish more would sound like Sen. Leahy or even the anti-pork Rep. Senator/Doctor featured on 20/20 last night. Have to admit that Edwards, Biden, and Gore look less presidential with increased exposure, but then so do McCain, Romney, and Giuliani.

More like FDR did

...The president tells us Iraq is a "noble" war, but his wife, his children and his nieces and nephews are not listening. None has enlisted in the armed services, and none seems to be paying attention to the sacrifices of military families. Until Jenna's trip to Panama, the presidential daughters performed community service only when mandated by a court after they were cited for underage drinking. Since then they have surfaced in public during lavish presidential trips with their parents, bar-hopping outings in Georgetown and champagne-popping art openings in New York.

...Franklin Delano Roosevelt showed how the power of good example could also be powerfully good politics. When he led the country to sacrifice in World War II, his children enlisted and his wife traveled to military bases to counsel and comfort the families of soldiers. Newsreels showed the president's four sons fighting with the Marines in the Pacific, flying with the Army Air Forces in North Africa and landing with the Navy at Normandy. Soon other public figures followed suit — movie stars (James Stewart and Clark Gable) enlisted and sports heroes (Joe DiMaggio and Hank Greenberg) went off to war.

Fewer pledge allegiance to the GOP

A poll says 35% of those surveyed identify with Republicans. Public attitudes seem to be drifting toward Democrats' values.Really?

Then how does one explain this?

February 21, 2007 - Giuliani Tops Clinton In 2008 Presidential Race, Quinnipiac University National Poll Finds; Republican Runs Strong In Red, Blue And Purple States

Former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani leads Sen. Hillary Clinton 48 - 43 percent among American voters in a 2008 national presidential poll released by Quinnipiac University today. Arizona Sen. John McCain edges Sen. Clinton 46 - 44 percent.Hell man, Clinton (who is a beloved DEMOCRAT) can't even top Giuliani (who is a HATED REPUBLICAN, or "REPUG" as Hcap likes to demean them) in traditional "Blue" states!!!!

"WHERE IS THE LOVE?" cries a distraught HCAP!!!

Giuliani tops Clinton 55 - 38 percent in Red states, which voted Republican in the 2004 presidential election, and ties her 46 - 46 percent in Blue states, which went Democratic in 2004. He gets 44 percent to Clinton's 45 percent in Purple states, where the margin in 2004 was less than 7 percent, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll finds. And yet another "Hcap moment" goes up in flames....sorry 'bout that....maybe they forgot to tell the ones being polled that Rudy is a Republican and that Clinton is a BELOVED Democrat. Maybe they forgot to tell the ones being polled that America has now embraced the values of Democrats while rejecting Republicans....

In the meantime, Hcap can be heard repeating over and over again "There's no place like home, there's no place like home" while clicking his heels to the beat of a different drummer.

Your Quinnipiac Poll is very premature. 2008 is politically way off

Your match up between clinton and rudy is at least one month old, and rudy's marriages had not been under public scrutiny as much then as now. I would like to see the same match up now.

Also, rudy is not your typical george bush holier than thou rightwing candidate. And I thought youse guys considered rudy a "Rino". Why not match clinton with a real rightwing ideologue? How would newt do against clinton? or maybe cheney against clinton? That would tell us more about the welcome death of the policies that have been in effect since bush has been in charge.

Oh yeah, your house repug poll, Rasmussen, which has been in bushs' corner all along is whistling a different tune...

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/Political%20Tracking/Issues/Issues20070323.htm

"As the House of Representatives narrowly passed legislation requiring most U.S. troops to leave Iraq by September 2008, 50% of Americans say they trust Democrats more than Republicans to handle the situation in Iraq. A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 38% trust Republicans more on this topic. Those figures have been relatively constant for several months. On the eve of Election 2006, 49% trusted Democrats more on Iraq while 42% placed their trust in the GOP"

"On the broader question of National Security, the GOP fares better but not nearly as well as in years gone by. Forty-six percent (46%) of voters trust the Democrats more on National Security while 44% prefer Republicans."

Face it, repugs are on a serious declining curve.
Time to resurrect reagan

Hcap, you made NO DISTINCTIONS in your poll. You did NOT classify the "TYPE" of Republican YOUR POLL was counting.

Why do you demand that the NATIONWIDE poll I cited reflect that Rudy isn't a HARD CORE RIGHT WINGER?

Also, Ms. Clinton hasn't exactly been basking in positive light either since the Quinnipiac poll was released about a month ago. That Obama ad probably knocked her down a peg or two as well....so call it even.

Jeez man, you're complaining that it is a month old? Talk about grasping.
