It's 12:20 and I can't find any info on the web as to whether Philadelphia Park is closed today. I suspect it is because TSNbet.com has no mention of the track in its index and the Philadelphiapark.com website is mum on any changes.

But no where is there a definitive statement that the track is closed, not on TSNbet's home page, not on the Philly Park website, not on the PA home page.
Not on bloodhorse.com, nor drf.com, nor thoroughbredtimes.com.

Yes, I can turn on my TV and find out of course, but that's not the point.
The information should be EASY to find online.

Or am I missing something here and will end up apologizing?

Wait, just before posting this, I finally found the answer. Not at TVG, but at the Xpressbet.com website. Not on the home page of course, nothing as easy or informativedas that. But when I drilled into "today's schedule," next to Philadelphia Park it said "Cancelled."

Why the hell doesn't TSN mention this on its home page?
Why don't the other so-called "news" sites mention the track is closed?
Shouldn't PA have a list on its home page of any tracks closed today?

And why is the track closed? The snow was two days ago, the temps have warmed up a bit. Is it a freezing-thawing type of thing which has made the track dangerous for the jocks??

I just went down to my OTB and after I paid the buck to get in and went

to my seat a lady told me Philly isn't playing today. What a bunch of baloney

I know they have slots now but I down loaded the card and went over my

handicapping this morning all with the intentions the track was running.

That is a total bunch of crap

There were a couple of big field races at Philly on Sunday that I was interested in and no word on the website that the track was closed.

I found out about 10 minutes to the 1st race post by going to their signal on the NJ Bets site and seeing the graphic.

Nothing on their website - and I did poke around for awhile > maybe all that slot money couldn't afford a weekend website update person

Tom,

Ya and we also pay for the crappiest copies of equibase you'll ever find.

We talk all the time about the management not understanding this is

the entertainment business and they treat us like dirt. The other day they

recalled the track program because only Tampa Bay was correct and about

15 minutes later they were "selling" copies of each track for 50 cents.

Most of the guys are over 70 and there is no way they could have been

able to read the data. Mohegan (sp) Sun took over last year and I

haven't seen one improvement. Saturday a small cup of soda went up

to $ 1.90. Some fun eh?

I have been to Philly's Valley Forge Turf Club over a thousand times. Parking and admission are FREE.

AKA as the "Oaks" for those who might be geographically challenged.

Ditto the freebee at the Brandywine facility.

Well, considering that Philly Park doesn't have a publicity department that might handle the dissemination of such closings to the public - announcer Keith Jones was forced into a part-time role as press release writer, for no extra money, I might add - it's no wonder that handicappers are angered and bewildered over not knowing if the track is running. However, the track does have a full-time publicity/marketing department for the casino, which they are more interested in promoting than their horse racing product.

Someone needs to write a song of Keith as Felix did for Oscar. In light of his extra duties without a nomimal bump, it might just cheer him up or in the least make him happy & peppy.

Odd that two destroyed horses in two races illicit the ire of track officials @ PEN yet AQU jocks refuse to ride over the choice of a hospital.

This from Penn today after two breakdowns in two races:

JOCKEYS DECIDE NOT TO RIDE AFTER TWO RACES ON MARCH 20TH PROGRAM

GRANTVILLE, PA… Tuesday night’s live racing program at Penn National Race Course came to an abrupt half after two races when the jockeys voted not to ride out the card.

“The jockeys came to us and said they felt that the track was too hard after they rode in the first two races”, said Rob Marella, Director of Racing Operations. “We quickly met with our track maintenance crew, walked the track, and we felt that the track was fine for racing”.

The management team was then joined by a quartet of riders for another walk over the racing surface, but the jockeys continued to express displeasure with the conditions.

“We don’t understand the decision by the jockeys. Unfortunately this decision affects all of the horsemen, our fans who support the industry with their wagering, and our employees.”

Marella said that with moderating temperatures for the rest of the week, he expected that the track conditions would be similar for Wednesday and Thursday night’s regularly scheduled racing programs. Post time both nights is 6:45 p.m.
