CALGARY AREA RACING FACILITY

Progress on the new Balzac facility is continuing at a decent pace. It is anticipated that the water issue (source & cost) will be finalized shortly. Stripping and grading is on going and the reclamation of the gas well is now resolved. Highway infrastructure has also been resolved to the satisfaction of the Developer. HRA and UHA continue to believe that the start up date of April 1, 2008 will be met.

The HBPA will continue to monitor the progress of this project and will provide a status update to the membership at the March, 2007 General Meeting which will be held in Calgary.

Members are encouraged to visit the – UNITED HORSEMEN OF ALBERTA (UHA) website located at: www.uha.ca (http://www.uha.ca/). The website contains all the latest developments and has valuable information on the project.

Have not heard as such but it would have very limited use given the radically changeable weather there.

I've been hearing this for years (see below). So it is actually going through?

The Horses, RMTC, Lethbridge—“Alberta deserves this.” Those were the words of Max Gibb as he assessed the newly-announced $78-million horse racing complex slated to be opened in January, 2007 on the northern outskirts of Calgary. Gibb is Chief Executive Officer of the United Horsemen of Alberta Inc, the investment team awarded a long-term race track license for the Calgary market, valid from 2007 to 2017.

I was thinking Presque Isle, Maine.......beautiful area I hear. But is this Presque Isle near Erie? What city (other than Erie) is it near to?

I believe its right in Erie, very close to the water.

Presque Isle is the peninsula enclosing the bay in Erie (I don't know why they call it an Isle  )

The track is well off the water and south of I-90. PA-20 is 26th street - 26 blocks off the lakefront - you can judge how far south the track is from that.

Erie is half way between Buffalo and Cleveland. About 90 miles each way.

It's about an hour east of Cleveland.

Erie is 90 minutes away from both Cleveland and Buffalo and 2 hours North of Pittsburgh. Track is being re born due to the State ok'ing slots. This is the site of the old Commodore Downs. In "Picking Winners" , Beyer talks about taking his mother to the new track in his hometown, Commodore Downs, Erie Pa.

Believe they tried to operate it as a harness track, Presque Downs, for a time in the nineties. That didnt work out either, but now with slots, well there's new hope.

Great to see a new track.

Are there any tracks of note in Buffalo? Thistledown in Cleveland, but I don't know about Buffalo. I'm guessing there is, going by the closeness of Nigara Falls...

Fort Erie is about 5 miles away from Buffalo, just over the Peace Bridge. They also have a couple of small harness tracks nearby, Buffalo, Hamburg, and Fredonia.

Presque Isle Downs is in Pa. just south of Erie (and Presque Isle - the name of the peninsula encircling the bay at Erie).

I live in Cleveland it takes about 1 and 1/2 hour to get there, I like to go to Casino there, but I haven't been to that track. I have played that track, at Thistledown, in the simulcast Racing. Sometimes they really pay good. I think they will have Live racing in Sept, but I hear they have Simulcast Racing, right now I told a Friend of mind, if they don't have Live racing, I can stay right here in My own town, why go that far, and I can stay right here and go to Thistledowns. I hear Thistledown is for sale?
I am lucky there sometimes. I missed a thousand dollar race last Saturday, At Gulfstream a Trifecta. I had it all pick out and played it in the wrong Race, Sunland Park.
