With all the races available to bet in this day and age it's possible to get overwhelmed at times. I have found that it's much more profitable to cut down on your action in order to make better bets on solid selections.

One of the best ways I've found to do this is by qualifying my plays. One of the best qualifiers is to never bet a horse that doesn't have a BIG win at the distance. What do I call a big win? It's when a horse sets or presses the pace all the way and enters the stretch with the lead and then draws away. If a horse doesn't show a race like this in his past, it's a pass.

I just saw this yesterday, kind of in line with what you're talking about, being selective.

I make sure they have won or finished a close second in a field the size of today's. I find it works in both directions, being horses that win in large fields sometimes can't get up in a field of 6 which most ignor, and the common thought horses that win in 6 horse fields are lost in a field of 12.
I picked this up in a Nick Mordin book.

You guys must bet alot of chalk. Seems like you just end up on the same horses as everyone else with that criteria
