Old chestnut, but I didn’t find anything on the search…

If a Jockey has 54 wins from 213 starts at an average win payoff $7.46
(Stats courtesy DRF) What would be the ROI, and more importantly what would be the Math behind the calculation.
I get ROI off -5.4% but I’m not sure I’ve calculated it correctly.

Any help much appreciated.

Zerosky,

Your math is correct...

Total Returned: $7.46 x 54 = 402.84
Cost of Wagers: $2.00 x 213 = 426.00

ROI = Total Returned / Cost of Wagers
ROI = 402.84 / 426.00
ROI = 0.9456

I've seen ROI expressed three different ways.

In this case...

ROI to $1.00 would be 0.9456
ROI to $2.00 would be 1.8913
ROI expressed as a percentage would be -5.44 percent
