Seattle Slew has to be the best when you consider his racing and his stud career.

Seattle Dancer was a pretty poor purchase.

The Green Monkey could get better, or even worse.

Mr. Sekiguchi (sp?) isn't far behind The Green Monkey for worst.

Maybe not the worst ever, but currently racing Ever Shifting a $5.2 million Tale of The Cat 2YO purchase is now 4YO and has been beaten 17 and 25 lengths in his two starts for Darley on AQU Inner. They probably won't get out on him.

Some come to mind immediately:

Lava Man 50,000
Budroyale 50,000
Charismatic 62,500

I know John Henry was once purchased for 12,500 but don't remember if that was via claim or private sale. Green Monkey is making that guy look like $16 million or whatever he paid is just peanuts and really doesn't matter to him! :D LOL

Wasn't Electrocutionist picked up for like $30K?

In '47 Stymie, claimed for $1,500 as a two-year-old, became the first horse to eclipse the $700,000 earnings mark.

Do you guys remeber Beau Genius?

The horse had all sorts of physical problems and was re-claimed from the dead by Gerald Bennett.

He put the horse back together and won the Michigan Mile and Iselin Hdcp among others.

.... sorry, just flashback of when I had real t-bred racing here in MI.

John Henry was sold as a yearling for $1,100, and he earned $6,591,860.

25 grand would have bought none other than Northern Dancer at the E.P. Taylor sales!

What about Sunday Silence? Didn't he not sell at auction and was privately purchased for something like $17,000?

BINGO!
And look at the millions in stud fees earned since, from him and his offspring.
Great call maxell.
