Plasma, LCD TVs

I am looking at buying a large screen TV and am looking for opinions on Plasma vs. LCD TV's. Is 35 or 40 inches a reasonable size? Or should I go for the 50 inch ones (I know there is a 108 inch one too!). Any suggestions would be appreciated as I don't know much about these things. (I know that's a long list)
