Installed IE 7 (Yes, I'm a masochist), and it won't allow me to load some websites. The diagnosis was that my firewall (Zone Alarm free version) was blocking some FTP ports --

I know nada about FTP except what it stands for.

Any help out there???

a,

In IE, have a look at Tools/ Internet Options/Advanced/Browsing.

If the Enable FTP Folder View is ticked, try unticking this and enable passive FTP. OK it.

If still not work then look in your firewall to see if TCP ports 20 and 21 are blocked by the firewall - if so, unblock them.

I think maybe your problem was solved, but I'll add this tidbit of knowledge in case others have a similar issue.

I have DSL internet access and can't normally access any FTP stuff like files to download, even with IE set as robert99 has previously indicated. Also it wasn't the firewall software on my PC either.

Turns out the problem was with my DSL's 'SpeedStream' Modem's built-in firewall! So whenever I want to access FTP, I have to log into the Modem and set its firewall level from "Medium" down to "Low". After I do this - No problems! Just got to remember to reset it back!
