Here is a very uncoventional wager:

exacta box 1,3,4,5,6,7 = $30

throwing out favorite Oh So Awesome

41.80 - 30.00 = +$11.80:rolleyes:

Oh So Awesome runs 6th.

One of those rare scenarios where it pays to box a lot of horses..

Now a $1 6 horse tri box is $120. Collect $559.70 :)

Good point. It could have easily paid even more than it did for the trifecta as well!

For the tri I had to include #2 (oh so awesome) in the third slot. Still a relative value play at $150.00.

When I post a wager in the selections board, I try to keep them at minimum cost/risk where I still see some value. I don't feel very comfortable "suggesting" a homerun approach, although it may at times be the most profitable.

This type of pick could even be spread deeper and also be used in a betting exchange to "lay" against a favorite...

Excellent point, sometimes it is right to invest more in such a situation.

Why I didn't like the horse in this race-

Oh So Awesome is a horse I started following prior to the Belmont Stakes. There were some bad signs to begin with. – The French trainer did not want to train him up to the Belmont. There were undertones from James Jerkins that OSA didn’t show dirt talent in the mornings. He was never a true top three-year-old, it was a project for the 12f distance of the Belmont. Was not really involved in the last four races while picking up deceptively high late pace figures and overall speed figures. This race offered enough mild speed, and the competition had a history of finishing well. Prado didn’t have much to work with here. He would have to save ground, and the horse figured to fall behind. If he hustled Oh So Awesome early, he would flatten out. If Prado waited, he would need a total pace collapse to move up.
