MIDNIGHT LUTE was four wide on the first turn, chased wide, bid four wide on the second turn and and made a bid three deep into the stretch to gain the lead and was caught at the wire by a nose. This is yet another example of a jockey being only focused on one horse in a race, BROTHER DEREK, and lose to somebody else.

Someone here posted a great racing analysis of some jocks making a bidding move on the final turn as being the most preposterous riding error that a jock can make because the horse is just needlessly expanding great amount of energy needed to counteract his momentum from blowing the turn. Yet this is exactly what Victor Espinoza did. He rushed Midnight Lute who was already tired from going four wide around the track and forcing MIDNIGHT LUTE to needlessly make a premature move into the stretch because he saw BROTHER DEREK making a move.

This horse looks like the most promising 4 year old out West. Let's hope that the trainer puts a more competent jock on him next time.

He was clearly riding to beat Brother Derek.
