View Full Version : Are you any good

I just finished handicapping Santa Anita for December 28 (Thur) and found the card to have more potential winners per race than is usual.

My challenge is to old and new members on the board that want to have some fun and maybe earn some respect along the way.

The rules are simple – everyone has $200 to construct a P4 ticket/s for races 5 -8. Post em before they run.

$200 is a lot of money. I am guessing there is a $2 minimum? I do not play Pick 4s. Rarely play Pick 3s.

Let's say there is a $2 minimum, then you can play a ticket like this

3 * 3 * 3 * 3

or
1 * 4 * 5 * 5

I will take the latter path, Race 7 is the obvious choice for a singleton.

1,7,9, 11, 12 / 1,3,5,7 / 3 / 1,2,4,10,12

Actually it’s a $1 ticket -- $200 seems like a lot of money but lets go with it okay. Don’t want anyone stressing too much about ticket structure. Believe me there won’t be as many winning tickets as you think. ;)

Feel free to revise your ticket -- and thanx for asking the question, I should have made that clear from the outset

limiting one to a single wager type at a single track will NOT tell you much: it is performance over time that separates the wheat from the chaff.

$1 P4 paid $21,147.45
Actually $22.5

Traditionally the P4 @ SA in the early stages of its Winter Meet can yield handsome results with tickets that go deep. MCL involvement in any portion of the leg warrants depth.

Todays card showed a sound 2-play in the 7th with the 3-4. IMO, solid up the valid chalk and their rival and dig deep in the chaos.

Avg P4 payout thusfar: $6.7K

Today was the 1st day that we have had co-mingled pools in California, maybe it's because of the exchange that our payout was less, not sure of how the payoffs are calculated but the Canadian payout was as I stated. :)

J Van Berg brought his usual off the pace la bomba @ the "tween" distance of 6.5.

6.5 on the downhill turf offers real value if you know what to look for.

You played well by putting the 3,4 "on ice" in the 7th. Depth in chaos and you're golden. gl

I respected Van Berg years ago, but these days he has to beat me and unfortunately, this time he did. Sure helped that they came home in 33 1/5 final 3/8th after a 43 4/5 opening half.
