This past weekend marked the eclipse of Fidel Castro, who spent a lifetime trying to convert Latin America to anti-American socialism. The weekend also saw the consolidation of power by Hugo Chávez in Venezuela. Mr. Chávez seeks to assume Mr. Castro's mantle and inject even more virulent anti- Americanism into a leftward drift l ike we are witnessing in such countries as Bolivia, Ecuador, Nicaragua, and even Mexico, where leftists showed surprising strength in recent elections.

What I find interesting is that not only was there a leftward backlash in the recent U.S. elections, but also in Central and South America.

I'm not saying this is good or bad, I just think it is interesting how the whole world is influenced by what happens in the U.S.

Also, it should be noted that "leftist" in Central and So America has a somewhat different meaning than in the U.S. -- but the fact that a shift has taken place is the interesting part.

Hopefully, Newton's Third Law of Motion will eventually come into play in response to these recent developments.....

Pretty obscure reference there, PA -- at least for a guy like me. :D

Forgive me, it's been at least 20 years since I took "Physics for Dummys 101" in college. I can't remember which one of Newton's laws you're talking about. Is this the one -- An object in tends to stay in motion until acted upon by an equal or opposite force?

It's the one which states "for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction."

Sounds like Newton's Laws apply to politics, too.
