Closest horse growing up?

While growing up, how far away from your house was the closest horse?]

Our back fence neighbor had several on a 2-acre ranch.

almost got trampled by a trio of them while playing in the sand box. Mom saw these three horses running through the fields but there was nothing she could do, being in the kitchen. I saw 'em from where I sat and they were magnificent looking, dunno how far away, probably not that close.

KNowing now what I know about horses, I dont think they would have got that close to me or if they did they would have jumped over. Mom was sure spooked about it though.

It was about 10 miles from where I grew up in Chicago to where horse drawn carriages took tourists around on city tours

24 miles, exactly. When I was a kid my brother showed me this ranch that had horseback riding. After, I would bicycle all the way their just to get near horses, just about everyday. No one knew where I was all day. That brings back great memories, especially for a city kid.

For Christmas relief I'm just seeing how much being around horses spurred an interest in racing for handicappers.
