where is a good site that explains all that equipment trainers drape all over trotters and pacers?: head lines, etc..

A short while back I archived a photo of Billy Direct and The Widower as team in their 1939 Record.
In the photo both horses looked very similar to me in color and equipment.

The only significant difference I saw was that Billy Direct wore a flashy ("thingy") piece of harness over his forehead.
I posed the question to some folks and found the item is called a "brow band".

I may have some images from USTA books that provide a more extensive listing of equipment than the current images used on the USTA website, albeit older images. (Not much has changed since the older images except some time ago leather was used and today the harness is primarily plastic (lighter and easier to care for).

Here's and interesting display of "Bits" by Del Miller from a 1960's Hoof Beat. Although the wagering fan rarely sees the bits, it's a nice insight.
