Mine says $10 on the inside of the jacket cover. :D

The one at ebay says by Robert L. Bacon and the one at Abe Books says by Allyn & Bacon. What’s that about?

Here is a good link as to what you will get for your hard earned dollars.

http://www.dailyspeculations.com/Letter/bacon.htm

I don't know about the Book Collector market, but any information printed before Simulcasting started is to be looked at with the proverbial fine tooth comb. Many authors who were successful back then usually got just one regional version of the racing form and it had about 4 or 5 tracks in it.

Even the detailed William L. Scott studies of the day cannot compare to a few keystrokes many people can perform in seconds with their database.

The one at Abe's doesn't appear to be the same book because the publisher they list is not the publisher of the one on Ebay, which is Amerpub Company.

I, too, have the book that is on Ebay. I don't see an ISBN # on mine anywhere.

That's very true, but I'm assuming that something prompted him to put such a high price on it. Interesting that several of us here have the book, though. I just got mine a couple of years ago.

I think people search the Internet for other sites and then post prices just a lil lower. I saw this book on Amazon for a similar price.

Also, Amerpub republished books, just like the Form has done. The material in this book has to be close to 50 years old.

My wife recently sold one of the Ziemba books for $249. Blows my mind.

But here is what I find really funny...

$2k for a book but don't forget to add the $3.49 shipping. (And don't forget the insurance.)

I think gambling books should NOT be sold on Ebay. Like ALL systems, they lack any value. Anyone who pays that sum for a horse book MUST be registered as an incurable gambling junkie.

.....why stop with gambling books ?......why not also ban books on

Astrology, Dreams, Tarot card reading...........

Then we could put all these useless books in a pile, and have a good 'ole

book-burning Bar-B-Que.

Maybe get Mel Gibson to strike the ceremonial

match..........seek Heil !!!

Which chapter did you use to jump out in front of the Ranchwest contest? I better re-read it!

Tom, lol, I don't think I found anything specific in the book that helped me but at times I found that it stimulated some thought that probably helped some. I think the best position a handicapper can be in is to always have more questions than answers.

I bght the Bacon Book in the fifties for $5. The Taulbot book was being sold at the same time for $10. Bacon put a lot of emphasis on the wght a horse was carrying. I traded the Bacon book away about a yr ago but i'm gonna hang on to the Taulbot book and all others until i'm tempted by an offer...

I have Ray Taulbot "Thoroughbred Horse Racing Playing for Profit" 1942 its 256 pages long and is in excellent condition. The inside dust jacket has a price of $3.50 I got mine at a used book store for $15.00.

The back has a pocket and in the pocket is the pastperformances of a card at Baymeadows for December 8th 1934 and some other tracks with the charts.
