Picked up this POS malware from somewhere & can't seem to get rid of it.

Ad-Aware appears to find it & get rid of it but a reboot always adds it back & as of today, even Ad-Aware can't seem to get it off the system tray.

Any advice greatly appreciated.......TIA!

It's climbed into your registry so that it re-installs on reboot. Find out the name of it, Goog the name and find a site that'll tell you how to permantly say, TaTa

Thanks Ralph. Saw that one on a google search but wasn't sure about it.

Running as I type this.

Interesting that about the 4th item down on the search was a website for the f'ing spyware itself.

Thanks Big. If this free software doesn't work, I'll make an attempt to fix the registry myself. Key word = attempt LOL.

make sure you don't forget to check "add remove programs" in control panel. sometimes these guys get around being called "spyware" by actually providing an uninstall routine that is listed in "add remove programs"

LB, sorry you picked up a piece of malware.

Please post the name if and when you find it, if it is something other than Pest Trap(?).

TIA

Click on the Let's Dance button on the left.
Follow ALL directions in order.

Short of that, try this - turn off your restore points, power up in safe mode, then run your spyware program.
Turn restore points back on after you are done.

I have also had very good result with ewido - it got stuff nothing else even detected.

Guys, Sorry forgot to post an update.

Short version:

The remover (SpyHunter) posted by JR appears to work well BUT they want $30 AFTER it runs and looks for all the little f****rs, to actually remove them. Their log is worthless too until you fork the $30 over. I was able to use their list and some info on their site and remove most/all(?) of the PestTrap files by hand.

SpyBot also seemed to find a few that AdAware & SpyHunter didn't INCLUDING SpyHunter itself. I think it (SpyHunter) is safe PonyP, but wouldn't swear to it.

PestTrap is also known as "SpySheriff", "SpyTrooper", and "SpywareNO!"

Gonna try Tom's suggestion next because as has been mentioned on this site before, it seems to take 3 or 4 to catch stuff the others don't.

Thanks for all the help & feel free to post back if anyone discovers anything else about this p.o.s. malware or it's authors.

Note on Enigma SpyHunter: Enigma's SpyHunter anti-spyware application was listed on this page primarily because of the company's history of employing aggressive, deceptive advertising. The company was also known for exploiting the name "spybot" in its domain names and online advertising. These objectionable business practices were employed primarily from late-2002 to mid-2004. Sometime during summer of 2004 the company halted the most obnoxious and objectionable aspects of its online advertising. It also unloaded all the "spybot" domains (which were promptly picked up by Paretologic for its XoftSpy anti-spyware application).

I found that ADAWARE wasn't very effective, so I deleted it. I now only use the free SPYBOT and the commercial NOADWARE spyware removal software products. I like these products because of their ability to find, and capability of deleting the tough-to-detect spyware, adware and other computer pests.

If I remember correctly, NOADWARE let's you have a free 30 day trial to see if you like the product or not, and thus decide whether you want to purchase it or not. Here's their link if your interested.
