Hi guys,
We are going to change our cable company next month......to Time Warner/Road Runner internet (cable)
They have three packages to chose from:
Basic------up to 1.5Mbps x 384Kbps
Standard.....up to 6Mbpsx512Kbps
Extreme........coming soon......10 MbpsxMbps

I don't download music or burn CDs. I sometimes download pictures off my little cheap kodak digital camera.
Mostly I just surf the internet and use email.
Which one would you suggest I choose?

Thanks in advance.

Basic'll cut the mustard SoCal. If you don't download piles of nefarious items like Tom , it's fast enough.

Diane,

My only service is not much faster than your Basic (2 Mbps). It is definietly more than enough for me (streaming Brisbet race video is probably most demanding thing I do) I would suggest starting out with the basic package. If it is not fast enough, I'm sure TW will take more money from you to upgrade.

Bill

BTW, You'll also get spyware slower

I suspect not only Tom, downloads nefarious items, otherwise why would they have packets called Road Runner Extreme?......
And they cost $20 more than basic!
I'll go with the basic.......thanks, bigmack.

I have Adelphia cable right now, but have no idea what 2Mbps is, do I have that now?
My cable works well enough for me right now.

Let's see if you can test it via my ISP ...

http://support.cebridge.net/

Click on "Speed Test" about 2/3 way down the list of selections on the left side then click OK when the pop-up window comes up. Then wait.

Your speed should be displayed in a few seconds.

My co-op bldg negotiated w/ TW & I have the Standard now, w/ updrade to EX.
With TV + Internet I pay $65 month, but of course we also got the extra channels. I would say go for Standard if its not too pricey.

My cable works well enough for me right now.You can check your connection speed with a few mouse clicks in WinXP.

Click in this order -
Start
Control Panel
Network Connections
Internet Connection

You should then see a pop up box titled Internet Connection Status.
In the Internet Gateway box you have three specs listed. Status tells if
you are currently conected, Duration tells you how long you have had
an uninterupped connection and Speed tells your connection speed in
Mbps.

Your current bandwidth reading is:

4.05 Mbps

which means you can download at 518.2 KB/sec. from our servers.
.................................................. ..

Does this mean I should get the middle one....the standard?

Thanks, Bill W. :)

The middle one will be closer to what you have now, but I'll stick with my original opinion - you can always upgrade if you find the basic package too slow. No use throwing money down the drain that you could be using to bet on horses :p .
